  • Coldain shawl... worth it for a non-caster?

I was thinking I might do the coldain shawl quest, im over all the tradeskill requirements. But the final piece seems about as much use to a rogue as a rope horse to a bard. I remember reading (or maybe dreaming of reading) that EQ was looking a possible turn-in for an equivelant melee piece.
Anyone know anything on that?? Even if there isnt plans on this I will probably still do just for bragging rights, will just drop down my list of priorities. Tyvm for your thoughts.

Mana regen + buff duration extension are of no use to a pure melee class, I don't think it'd be worth wearing for you. But it's not a caster-only item, it's very nice for hybrids too, until they outgrow it.

The rumor you heard probably applies to the Aid Grimmel earring. You can turn that in and swap it for the other version. The rumor does not apply to the shawl (nor does it apply to the ring either for that matter). Other than being a trophy piece, the shawl serves no real use for pure melees.

The 8th Shawl is fantastic for Caster / Hybrid soloers. The buff extensions seem to save more mana then the Mana Regen 3, IMHO.

As for pure Melees, I could see a good argument for getting up to the 6th shawl. If the focus extended to clickies (J-boots, Stanos' Wicked Gauntlets, etc.) then the value might be very great to continue past that. Since it does not, I'd have to vote it's not worth the troubles.

I kept my shawl for a long time after I upgraded it, just to wear it after a rez. The mana regen and buff duration extenstion make it great for CR.

My cleric's still wearing his shawl--increases duration of HoTs too, so I'm almost guaranteed an extra pulse of healing right now. Once he maxes EE, should be able to see the occassional 8th pulse, which at 1170 a pulse is nice.

Unless you have a lot of clicky buffs that are actual spells (worked on my Planestrider's chest, but not my Eyepatch of Plunder), it's probably not worth it as anything other than a trophy piece. You'll get a lot more mileage out of the ring quests.

I agree with the other posters as to the long lifespan of this piece for hybrids and buffers: I still keep it in the bag to use when I buff, and I've had it for literally years.

                      8th Coldain Shawl

I worked on that for my Bard since at the time, there were few shoulder items with FT3 on them that I could get. Since Bards only regen mana from worn items FT and no other way, having the extra FT3 for charms or what not was great. I still carry around and swap in the FT3 POP Composer boots for just that reason when I need the extra FT or am sitting in the hot tub after a rez.
