  • 8th shawl escort question

Does it break the script or anything if you charm the general and then buff the hell out of his hp before he gets to the first waypoint, then break charm and memblur? (Just to make him a little sturdier in case of any mistakes later)

I'm fairly certain that he can't be charmed.

He's pretty sturdy. His HP hasn't been a problem for any escorts I've been involved with.

Didn't matter much anyhow. We had as close to a flawless escort as possible. No mob stayed aggroed on the general more than about 3 seconds.

We were extremely tank heavy (5 warriors ranging from 56-64) and were able to take the straightforward tactic of "every tank get on a mob".

Sophi is correct, it can not be charmed or mezzed.

When I do the 8th war I always recruit a monk or Sk to come and tank mezz the general. What they do is get agro in between each battle so people can
mezz, rebuff or afk if they need to. Have an enchanter memblur or a cleric atone then head off to the next fight. The reason for using a monk/sk is
obviously because of FD should the person doing the atoning/memblur go LD or die.

Just so you know that the General MUST get initial agro from each of the fights. If you think you can get agro and run him to the gnomes therefore
bypassing the battles you are mistaken. The general still needs to follow his pathing and get agro off the mobs at all 5 of the mob spawn areas for the
script to work. The reason I am saying this is because eventually it will be asked which happens at least once a week on these boards

Quick correction to the 8th shawl description. The wolves in the first wave were immune to Rapture (lvl 59 mez). Didn't try the other wolves, but I would guess it is the same.

as of yesterday, no wolves except the named in the first wave were immune to Glamour of Kintaz or anything above that.

Forgive me my ignorance of all things enchanterly, but Glamour of Kintaz is mez, right? So I can simply say that all but the named in the first wave are mezzable?

                Thanks

yeh, GoK is the level 54 mez. I want to say i managed a dazzle (level 49) on one of the wolves later on, but i'll have to recheck before i commit to that.

I was fairly concerned with the possability of completing the 8th fights with the turnout i had for mine, but it went suprisingly easy. we used 1 monk to track the general, and a couple 3 or 4 druids to run around giants as needed. we were melee light at the time, but i was pleasantly suprised.

                    sorry to ask..

                    common , beaten question.

but how many ppl are usually needed for this escort? assuming most are 55+.

Also. i followed the Quest instructions, and combined the armor, went to hand it in to the dain, and he was gone. Have i lost the ability to summon him? i dont want to give the guy standing next to him my shawl, in fear i wont get it back(from reading the writeup here, that is how you summon the dain).
So, can he still be summoned, or do i have to wait a week for him to spawn again?

                    thnx.

Not getting the shawl back when you turned it in to summon the Dain was an old bug. I don't think it's happened in a loooong time. Trust Verdandi's 7-step guide

Finished my escort yesterday... WOOT... we had just enough tanks for each to pull agro - was a lovely thing. When we needed a few mins in between one of the fights for rezing and rebuffing - my most courageous Bard kited him around for us - what a Hoot - it was very funny to see... anyway...

I was glad to see that the General does NOT ignore the battle and in fact helps as much as he can. We let him do his own thing unless we weren't ready to continue...

Good Luck to future 8th shawl questers!!

                          some notes

Did this yesterday, with the smallest crew yet. We had 13 people, average level of 59. 33 Tank-mez's, 1 bard, 2 wizards, 1 shaman, 1 cleric, 1 druid healer, and a few others.

Wasn't an issue at all....of course, we have done it 6 times now, and know all the spawns, and oder of spawns, named pop locations etc.

                          Couple notes.

Most importantly - never step in front of the general. Prior to the path change, he would warp when he got stuck. not willing to try it post path change to see if he still does.

No need to prevent him from running off every wave. It seems his agro range was increased considerably. He has run after a giant a wizard was kiting, and was a decent distance away. And agro'd on some other giants we were clearing.

I figure his Agro radius is 100-150 feet now

Other than that...mez or tank mez. Slow on the last named guy is good to have first, otherwise it is pretty easy.
