4th Shawl Spawn

Finally managed to get my 3rd and 4th snow griffin egg for my second attempt at the soufle. Put everything in the oven, and this time had a successful combine.

Yesterday, I went out to locate Tanik for the fourth shawl. I was out around the ramp looking for spawn points, and I apparently got a double spawn - both Tanik and the Death Squad appear to have spawned at the same time, and at the same location.
The text box read something like this:

uncovered a Coldain under a pile of snow.
been ambushed by a Kromrif Death Squad.

No, I'm not certain if that's the exact quote, but the important thing is that both appear to have popped at the same time, and the words 'You have' were left out of the messages.
Fortunately, I had SoW up (doing it without SoW would be considered suicide, I suspect), so I was able to pull the giants away, loop around and give the vial to Tanik, and then run pell-mell for Kael before the death squad did more than give me a few nice love taps.

the words 'You have' were left out of the messages

Those message seem to have chronic problems. I was in the Tower of Frozen Shadows a few days ago and triggered the message by the mirror to the second floor, but it also was missing the name of the speaker at the beginning of the message.

As for the two triggers at the same point, did you /bug it? I certainly hope that isn't working as intended.

Didn't think to bug it at the time, otherwise I might have. However, since I've never heard of this happening before, I would have to guess that it was just an amazingly wild fluke. Since the Tanik message appeared first, I would have to guess that Tanik was supposed to be the first to spawn in this particular instance, and the giants merely popped up as an afterthought.

Also worth noting - Tanik doesn't appear to be KoS to the giants.

I just did my fourth shawl today, and also had a double spawn (Tanik, and DS).

Looped around also, and handed in the vial while the giants were smacking me around.


Something interesting that I noticed about the death squads is that they stand there for a few seconds giving you a head start to run, and with SoE, I was easily able to run out of aggro range pretty quick.

Another thing is with SoE, or SoW + levitate, you can run across the top of the kael path, and the giants are usually left far behind, with no need to zone into kael, or run to GD, or anything else, just wait till they despawn in a couple of minutes and try it again.

There are multiple spawn points and sometimes the DS and the dwarf are very close. got both one time months ago when i did it. Othre times just the DS. finally just spawned the dwarf and did turn in with out moving an inch and was ok.

Lots of friends have seen the dwarf pop and had to run away from the DS at the same time.

Depends on the random spawn points I guess.

Did this quest yesterday... I had a friend with me, and we kept triggering the death squad. Finally after about the 10-12th attempt, got both Tanik and the KDS. Luckily my friend was able to distract the KDS and take them to the zone while I turned in. Someone said two could do the turn in, but Tanik despawned as soon as I gave him the vapors - so I doubt that is true.

I've heard there are multiple triggers, but only one will have Tanik, and Tanik will be in the same trigger until he is uncovered. So, our strategy after we found this out was to not go back over a trigger we had just done. Doing this we uncovered Tanik the very next time. We knew that the trigger to the left and right of the ramp were death squads, so we concentrated at the top of the ramp. I was suprised at how far out from the ramp we had to go to activate a trigger.

I also used my pet /guard here a lot, and we would get a trigger nearly every time if we walked backwards out from the pet - going forward we would some how miss the trigger.

Also, we did not have to zone to get the KDS off our tails - we had a lvl 52 druid SoW on us, and easily outran them - this saved a lot on having to recast a pet.

My goal was the third shawl so I could get the range item, but since I had the necessary pottery skill decided to go for the 4th - it was a nice bonus, but a real pain to find that little dwarf... I have no tailoring skill, so doubt I'll go for the 5th...

I had read a lot of horror stories of people triggering the KDS a dozen times. So when I prepared to do the 4th shawl I did the pet trick. Using my 2nd computer and acct, I made a level 4 mage, ran him to EW and bound him at the top of the ramp. I then proceded to use the pet gaurd trick and on my very first try found Tanik.

On another occasion, I was running to Kael and accidently triggered Tanik. I was suprised by this because I was levitating, guess its all about the loc.
