  • Number of attempts for Prayer Shawl 6?

I'm about to begin the 6th Prayer Shawl. I have my tailoring at 167. I was curious how many attempts you have made (and what your tailoring skill was) to get your 6th shawl.

Also, at 42, could a druid solo Siren's for their hair?

Well, I'm a tad on the chicken side but my 54 druid couldn't solo the sirens, at least not well enough for me to be comfortable.

Sirens are evil. You need high MR to avoid getting turned into.. well, whatever sirens are turning people into i suppose.

If you have a high level/well geared friend, ask for help.

I got the 6th shawl on the first try with a modified skill of 189. Must have been to make up for the failure on the 5th shawl at the same skill.

I think you would need a group to take care of the sirens at your level. I didn't have any problem soloing them as a level 55 enchanter, but my MR was over 150, I think. Heh, if you solo them and they charm you, they just stand around while you regen mana.

Just make sure to have EB, though. The breath meter still goes down while charmed - nearly drowned me once on the way to SG, when I skipped putting on my EB for such a short underwater stint. I got charmed, and though I just sat there (nobody for the siren to send me after) the breath meter was VERY close to empty by the time charm broke.

first try at 184 modded skill. there was rejoicing.

I think I was... under 60 when I did my siren hunting, but I had the dual help of a 65 shm+pet.

Currently at 0 for 1 at 158 raw skill + geerlok.

The biggest problem I have with the soloing the sirens is they gate at low health. I would get them down to <20% then they would gate away and leave me hanging. I couldn't find any place where they spawn that I could kill them in place without adds.

As a 58 shaman I don't have anything that could remotely be described as a kill shot and very limited ways to disrupt a caster. My pet is too easily charmed so I tried it without him and did better but still was stumped by the gate.

If you try them you want to have someone who can disrupt on command (stun/bash) or doesn't get adds fighting at their spawn points (high level?). Or have a kill shot that can take them out before they try to gate.

I hunted them as a 60 pal. I didn't really have much trouble soloing them - I could usually pull singles, but would get adds during the fight as we moved through melee push, repositioning due to sinking, and mob running. Other than the higher level ones (enchantresses maybe? been a while) I could take 2-3 on at once without too much trouble, but the higher level type could give me a issue in a group if I got bad luck on the AI (lots of casting = good, since that means little melee). Them gating wasn't an issue for me - I only remember them trying to gate a very very few times, though I hunted them at or near their spawn points so that might have impacted their gate decisions, and it was easy enough to swim over and kill their gated selves.

I tended to resist most of their spells, with not-so-stellar MR (somewhere in the low to mid 100s I think, after Resist Magic). I started out with a few external buffs (probably a Virtue & KEI), but they didn't last long with the Siren's dispells, though that wasn't much of a problem as selfbuffs were more than sufficient to take on the sirens.

I hit the three camps: outside Siren's Grotto, the "big rock" out in the middle of the ocean, and the beach camp kinda under the tower to Skyshrine. Going through them repeatedly in sequence, I generally didn't have to wait for respawn. Never died, though there were a few close calls.

                    Best pulling.

Ok. I'm still kinda new to EQ. I've gotten up to 46 and I usually pull sirens with my ensnare a ways up the tunnel near SG, but that tends to draw other Sirens as well. I can take the enticers ok, but the seductresses and enchantresses rock me. Is there a better way to single pull without aggroing more mobs?

                    0 for 1 on 6th shawl.

*cough* didn't fail a single combine for any shawl

                      em/ ducks

I did my 6th shawl without a geerlock, just after finishing Wu's.

I was 47 when I did the sirens. While visiting your local enchanter for KEI, hit em up for Guard of Druzzil. As a druid, Using harmony of nauture is your friend. I soloed the sirens at the 3 spawn point near the tip of the peninsula. Keep your low level dot on yourself, that way when they try to charm you, it won't last that long if it does land.

Good luck on the sirens, and the shawl.

If 167 is your modified skill then you will have a 60% or so chance of success.

If 167 is unmodified and you add a geerlok, then your chance should be more like 70%

Even in the 60s with MR around 200 the Sirens were not totally trivial. In the 40s you definitely want to make sure you use Harmony and only get one at a time. An EB item would be ideal because they dispel (don't you HATE getting dispelled by a mob 20 levels lower?). High level friends can be helpful... as long as they don't get charmed and slaughter you

On a side note regarding the post above: does DOTing yourself really help against charm? I realise that it will break mes, but charm?

                          Two attempts

Completed No.6 this morning. Skill of 168 and the geerlok.

Actually, when I got all the components, I made the thread and then place the thread, pattern, and shawl in my tailoring kit, but didn't combine. I busted out my fletching kit and worked on skilling up. I waited until I had failed twice in a row and then hit the combine button on my sewing kit. I figured after two fails (with the fletching) I was due for a success. Now I know that this doesn't necessairly mean I would succed (ever combine has a chance at failure), but I figure the odds would go up this way. Like rolling a random number 0-500. If you have to straight rolls under 50, the odds of it being above 50 on the third roll "probably" are better.

You figured wrong. No matter how many rolls you do, the odds of rolling above 50 are the same each time, just under 90%.
