  • 8th Shawl and SCRM

This isn't directly Quest related, but I figured this would be the best place to talk to 8th shawl owners.

Spell Casting Reinforcement Mastery gives you 50% extention to your buffs.

Zephyrs of Brell from the shawl gives you 20%.

What I want to know is, if I had SCRM, and the shawl, would I get 50% extention, 70% (50% + 20%), or 80% (50% * 20%) extention to my buffs?

Sine SCR 3 gives you 30% extention, I am wondering whether SCRM is at all important to a 8th shawl owner.

I have heard rumors of a 50% cap on extentions to buffs, but I have not been able to talk to an actual owner of the shawl who has trained SCRM.

Anyone out there with some answers?

I did a bit of poking around on the old forums...the Search function is a lovely thing *poke* Found a couple of threads: 8th shawl Effect and Does Shawl 8 stack with Spell casting Reforce? that cover the basics and are consistent with all the other threads on the same topic.

In a nutshell, the shawl effect DOES stack with the AA ability, granting 70%.

To my knowledge they do stack to 70%, but as a ranger, this is only from third hand knowledge. Be nice if they do though!

          The Resources lost...

Unfortunatly, there is a wealth of information on that old message board.

Verdaindi your shawl guide is amazing, I could never have gotten my 8th without your work.

But the old message boards were also an excellent refference. On the old quest board, if you searched, for example, "General Bragmur" you would find at least 8 threads talking about his specific role in the battle. By losing those boards I cringe at the knowledge lost.

I completely support Niami's decision and I see the neccessity, but I surely hope that these boards will someday create such a backlog of usefull posts.

Ahh well, I've got me shawl, anyway  Still getting over the fact that I finally got it

            Thanks, Leafrat

For the record, Niami is leaving up the old boards for a little while so people can gather what they want from there. If you'd like to do a quick and dirty compilation of old posts into new ones here just to have it saved in some form, that'd be okay. Just try to keep it all relatively compact (all the fight stuff in one thread, all the effect stuff in one thread, etc). If you wish, that is

Well if necessary I can create a account on the server for Niami that I own that has PHP Perl mySQL and PostgresSQL if the need is there for some archiving of the old forums.

Niami and Ngreth looked at ways to preserve the posts from the old forums but couldn't come up with anything that worked well enough. They tried importing things but the code wacked out on them. See this thread for more details or if you want to discuss your offer with them.

If there's particular information you'd like to preserve, feel free to copy it over here, keeping it as condensed as possible and located in the appropriate forums of course. This is one of the big disadvantages of the move...but as the alternative was to lose the site altogether, I think we can cope

                  yes they do stack

yes as someone seems to have found my old thread on the other board The shawl and SCRM stack. Tested extensively with the druid buffs and spells that i have access to IE almost all of them.

It works from 1st level spells up through level 65 spells both the shawl and SCRM. I will update in a couple of Aa exp to see if it works with AA skills like Spirit of Wood and other similar abilities.

There was a script. I tried to use it to import the old data here. But it choked. It would create a blank post for every PAGEVIEW... not actual post... so ended up with 2000 blank posts in MANY threads...

I don't have the time (or the knowlege) to write a script that could read the data oin ezboards for archival perposes.

Ezboards does not suplpy any method, or anny access to the DB

the script actually READ the pages and parsed the HTML... and that seems to be the only way to "archive" ezboards data.

I just don't have time to convert it myself.

So it is not really a matter of space to do it. It is a matter of ABILITY to do it.

I might be wrong, but I've had old guildboards that have gone abandoned for up to a year without being wiped out. I think as long as the message board has activity (visits) it will stay around. People (without CSC) will just need to live with pop-ups.

                        thats all
