Question about Shawl #4

I have tried for eons to find Tanik... no luck. So I recruited a beastlord friend to help...

But when my friend tells his pet /pet guard here, the pet faces me! I can run around in circles and the pet will always face me. Is this something that happens because I play on Tallon Zek and I'm on a different team than my Beastlord friend? I tried logging out and back in. I also tried backing away far enough that the trigger points were way closer to the pet than I was... but it always faced me.

Any ideas?

Not being a pet class, I wound up using one of the methods on Allakhazam's, that worked surprisingly well: Its on their 4th shawl page, the post titled "Tanik spawn location? No-pet meathod." Its basically an experiment on the hypothesis that the north-south location of the deathsquads and Tanik has discrete values, while the east-west component is basically random. So if you can find one of those key North-south values, just keep running along that east-west line, and you should get plenty of spawns.

I'd been checking on Tanik on and off for weeks (run over, hit the locs in the EQTC guide, run around a bit, leave; repeat later). First time I tried the linked methodology (I forget what line I used though - one derived from the post), I got 2 death squads and Tanik; I had to do the turnin while being attacked, but I got the note and did manage to survive. So I only tried the line method once, but the three triggers has certainly made me a believer in it.

It faced you because pets ALWAYS face the nearest enemy. And you are an enemy. You'll need to get someone who isn't an enemy to charm you a pet.

Get yourself a few pouches of Mistletoe powder in Lfay, then charm a rabbit or something very easy. You have a pet and you aren't in danger from it.

Each pouch basically translates into one spawn - Deathsquad or Tanik - since you probably need to zone to clear aggro from any Deathsquad spawns. And with the simplist option for target animal being a snow bunny (for low resist rate), it doesn't exactly live long against Deathsquads either.

Okay, you aren't in danger from the BUNNY. Nothing you charm will be able to hold up all the DS. That is what you want SoW for.

I think having the bunny as a pet is best so you don't lose charm as the DS pops, one stun will ruin your hold day. Running into Kael at SoW is very doable.

I did do this off and on, running up and down the -5677 line and got a ton of death squads. I would get 4 or 5 in a half hour and then log out to try again another day. But finally today I did find Tanik! I didnt believe my screen at first when it said I'd stumbled over a Coldain in the snow. Too good to be true.

One thing I will add is that i had success on lines from -5677.25 to -5677.48, but no success at -5677.77 (ran around for 30 min with no spawn on that line...)

Anyway, I'm so happy to be moving onto the 5th shawl
