Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl effect ... and 70

It appears that the Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl has not been updated to affect spells beyond 65. However, foci have been updated to have diminishing effect beyond the applicable level, so this at least would still have some focus effect in OoW, though I don't know how fast it drops off. Is this an oversight (since I believe it was updated from 60 to 65 once before)? Working as intended, to get people to move on? Or possibly ... another shawl in the making, to keep the quest updated? (Hey, can always hope!)

I have not heard anything from SOE to indicate whether or not they thought of this or considered changing it. I will ask Maddoc (unless someone else knows something), but I'd strongly recommend using /feedback as well.

The signet of the arcane is that way as well, says will affect up to lev 65. The Preservation of Xegony.

8th shawl isn't actually that old. It wasn't introduced when velious was new. It came out around the launch of PoP, iirc. Correct me if I'm remembering wrong.

8th Shawl was PoP era.

Now with level 70, there's even more of an excuse for a 9th Shawl... but I doubt we'll see it. The line was something along the lines of "the Shawl was blessed by a god... you can't expect better than that."

I mean thats what this expansion is about isnt it? Its how the PoDs are able to transport us.

I actually replaced my Druids shawl with the shoulder item from VP quests since the belt from VP does the same thing as the shawl.

Yeah I'm planning on doing the same thing with my druid, I'm going to get the VP quest shawl since I have the belt, then I'll need to find another FT3 to replace the coldain shawl.

Focus effects were supposed to continue working for higher level spells, just with a lesser effect. I think the idea was that a level 70 buff affected by the 8th shawl would only be extended 10%, instead of 20% (but that's still better than 0% )

Did you know that focus effects go by spell levels, not character levels? So even if you get level 66 (or even 70 for that matter) your old focus effects will continue being useful except when you cast 66+ spells (and the 66+ version of the spell is probably better than the focused 65- version anyway).

I'm guessing the issue was more about relative power. A fully focused lvl 65 nuke is probably more significant on a xp mob for a lvl 65, than a non-focused 70 nuke is on a typical 70-xp mob. So by staying at 65 and keeping the full benefit of the foci, they maintain a better player power to mob power ratio for the mobs they are interacting with.

Signet of the Arcane/Preservation of Xegony works 100% up to 67. Then it degrades by 10% per level (of the spell) to 70% (or 10.5% for level 70 spells.)

There's actually lots of foci that work 100% on spells up to 67 (or 68 for Discordant GoD foci) but that they never bothered to change the description on.

Check Lucy before you get worked up over it. (btw yes, 8th shawl loses effectiveness after 65, unlike the VP belt which functions fully til 67).

I have thought about this for awhile and now feel that SoE owes us a new shawl that will not only take the effect up to 70 but also add some additional benefit! Same for the AG earring!

Come on guys, they put these quests in the game for us tradeskillers and then later changes in the game make them irrelevant? There should be addjtional quests put in the game to update them. Not everyone is in a high end uber guild and for some people this may be one of their best items.

Gear is not meant to last forever, EQ is about progression. As people level up and explore higher level zones, better gear becomes available.

Although I sympathize. I made my shawl and it will be a long time before I give it up

Perhaps the solution is to add an OoW augment with the desired upgraded effect? The shawl has a slot 7, and there seem to be very few augments that don't fit in a shoulder slot.

Wont work for the earring, but perhaps SOE might consider adding "ear" as an available slot for some augments. /feedback !
