  • Aid Grimel "Shopping List"

I thought I once saw a list of items needed to collect for the Aid Grimel quest linked here, but now I can't find it. Since I am working on collecting up these items, I am making my own list in the absence of another. I thought I would share it. If there is another available around here somewhere, mea culpa, feel free to ignore this. If not, use this however you see fit.

I will break the quest down by items needed for each segment of the quest, and then by vendor purchased, mob dropped, and foraged items/ground spawn. At the end of each section, I include any very basic utility items that weren't mentioned above, such basic items that we should all know the recipes to them anyway and don't need a shopping list for them.

Items which cannot be made by everyone and therefore can only be made by a friend or bought in the bazaar will be broken out as well. This is where things get a little sloppy--I include the things you need to purchase to have a friend do the combine in the general list and mark it with an *, and the things those items make in a separate section. If an item is used twice in a combine, once for an unrestricted subcombine, and once for a restricted subcombine, it is listed twice in the appropriate quantities for each subcombine.

Do yourself a favor and make sure you have everything listed in the Utility Items and Restricted Combines section ready to go before attempting your momentous combine, otherwise you may have an awfully frustrating time perched on the edge of being ready but having to step back and make some stupid metal bits for a frying pan or somesuch.

This does NOT include the items given to you for each quest received from Aid Grimel. NODROP items will be identified as such, otherwise everything is droppable.

If I miss anything, or if you can think of a better way to organize this, let me know.

We have a "Shopping List" for the Xanthe Earring... but not one for Aid Grimel Quest. I will make a page for this and post it. Thanks Ambrya

      Ambrya,

I have created the initial shopping list article. I have not linked all the items properly yet (as you have done)... but I will get to that. Thanks for summarizing! Take a peek at:

Woot! Ambrya this is awesome, thanks for putting it together! Soon as I get two skill points in smithing I'm starting this quest and was in dire need of a shopping list.

In the fletching section, more items need to be tagged with the Asterisk, since the Chunk of Wind Metal, Cam Parts Mold, Clockwork Grease and Small Clay Jar are all used to make the Restricted Wind Metal Bow Cam.

In the fletching and Baking parts, I don't understand why some items are included in the Utility items section. I would expect this section to include mass produced items such as CE, and tools that get returned upon success. In Fletching you include the Small Clay Jar which is consumed, and Baking includes the Firewater, Bucket, and Picnic Basket.

Actually, I debated on this and deliberately decided not to Asterisk the Chunk of Wind Metal and the Cam Parts Mold, because technically, those are actually used in a SMITHING combine that yields the parts for the tinkered cams, not in the cams themselves. Thanks though. I know it's confusing...there are a couple gray areas like that. I couldn't figure out how to clarify it anymore without being either overly-detailed or imprecise.

LOL, well, a lot of what you see in the fletching and baking parts is due to the fact that I had been working on this list for 3 hours by then, and was getting very lazy. In fact, that is precisely the genesis of the "Utility Items" section on the list in the first place. I didn't feel like counting up all the metal bits and ceramic linings and whatnot for the stuff in the baking section, so I went through and broke out those sorts of items in the rest of the thing.

But, in point of fact, there are only a few consumables on this list. The Small Clay Jar is such a basic recipe, I didn't feel it was necessary to include a Block of Clay, Small Clay Jar Sketch, Water Flask, and Quality Firing Sketch in the shopping list. Same with the Clump of Dough, Picnic Basket, and Firewater in the Baking section. All of those are pretty basic recipes that any tradeskiller worth his or her salt knows anyway, and if you don't already know them, you can look them up with the greatest of ease. Besides, exactly WHICH eggs should I have used in the shopping list for a clump of dough? Formatting on that one would have been a NIGHTMARE, LOL!

As for the Bucket, it does get returned on combine. It may not be a terribly elementary recipe (though certainly not a hard one) but it is a utility item.

But thank you nevertheless for pointing these things out...I did find a couple items I need to fix now that I take a second look, which your post prompted me to do. Small Clay Jar has now been Asterisk'ed, and the tinkering items explained as being tinkered (only the Corking Device was listed that way before.)

Wow, thanks...I didn't expect you to create a page for it, I thought you would just sticky it or something.

It was my pleasure to help, and hey! Now I am immortalized in a contribution to my favorite website! LOL!

I was very tempted to make the list with checkboxes, but I really couldn't figure out the formatting for it. You may way to see if you can make those "hollow" bullets on the page you created larger, or make them into checkboxes...I don't know why, I just always find checklists very helpful.

Well I can't "easily" modify the hollow bullets... they are an artifact of the <ul><li> HTML tagging at the 2nd level of Unordered List (<ul>).

I do plan on getting the items all linked properly (like you did). I just did the quick transcribing first. I also need to put in additional linkages between the various parts of the quest and the shopping list.

I had always meant to put one together, but just keeping up with the site as is takes most of my spare time of fiddling. So this was a welcome addition.

                Thanks again.

Ahh ok, wasn't sure what it would take to replace them with a checkbox character. Not a big HTML guru here--I know enough to get by, and that's about it.

Not a big deal by any means. For some reason, when I print things out, I love to have little boxes I can check off next to them, lol! Maybe a little gold star, too...

Again, it was my pleasure. I just didn't see the need in keeping something I spent so much time working on to myself, even though I originally drafted it for my own benefit. I am just honored you found it useful enough to add it to the site.

Hmmm...I need to do some tweaking to the baking step. I didn't notice the yields on most of those items were 2. Will update in the very near future.

Aye, like the Regrua claws yields 2 cracked. Each Bristle combine yields 2 platters so if you got lucky you could do it with 1 claw as minimum.

Ok, in honor of actually completing Aid Grimel last night (yep, I have my Signet!) I have now updated the baking totals to take into account the yields on the combines.

                            Thanks Krazick.

I was considering trading in my signet for the melee version and noticed the "Final Step" page doesn't have the councilman's new text yet, which makes me leery of trying the turn in. Can anyone confirm that this works?

Councilman Taldarius says "Wonderful! You have proven yourself as both a Master of the Trade as well as a valiant spirit. Take this and may it server you well! If this signet does not suffice, bring it back to me and i will exchange it for one more attuned to your needs."

Can confirm, it works. I tried out the Signet of Might for a while and decided Preservation of Xegony is a VERY useful focus when you have no other Mana Pres.
