  • 8th Shawl MQ Question

I currently have a druid has has the 7th shawl and nearly has the skills and drops for an 8th shawl attempt. However, I haven't played this character in over a year and really I'd just be finishing the quest for completeness.

I've just started the shawl quest on my new main (she's at shawl 3 stage and only has JC skill!) and a friend has suggested to me that maybe I can MQ from my druid to my chanter.

Does anyone know if this is possible? Both characters are on the same account.

    Thanks

    8 Shawl MQ

The 8th shawl as far as I know can only be MQ'd if the other person has the 7th shawl (Approved not original..aka done some of the turn ins)

You should consider doing a 4th shawl MQ (get the note with your druid and then MQ it...though pottery is an easy skill and you will need it anyways for the 7th shawl)

Big thing to do is to work up your tailoring so that you don't fail the 5th and 7th shawls (6th shawl is normally pretty easy to get the parts for, so can do it multiple times) 7th shawl is a pain to get everything, and can be costly, 5th shawl is just tedious.

Muana-7th and 8th shawl on druid, 8th shawl on paladin. none on Muana! eek!

      Yep, you can!

Yes, the 8th shawl is MQable. When you're doing your turn ins with your first character (aka the one that got all the skills up to 8th Shawl level and will be farming), summon the dain (if necessary), get your shawl approved, run downstairs, get the box by turning in your shawl, CLICK COMBINE, then turn in your shawl again for another box. Voila, you've got another box to do the turn ins with (once you get rid of your FIRST box... the boxes are lore, but the empty box and the combined box are different items). Just make sure that when you do the MQ, you get the shawl of your second character (the one WITHOUT the 8th shawl skill levels) approved by turning it into the Dain. If it's not flagged approved, the Avatar will tell you he doesn't want it.

That all make sense? If you read the 8th shawl carefully, you'll see where loophole is. You could MQ the shawl over and over again if the MQer never gets the 8th shawl himself (ha!). Only "problem" would be summoning the dain, and the person who's receiving the shawl has to get their shawl approved anyway so there really isn't a "problem".

You do need to get your skills up to 7th shall level on your second character though. All MQing saves you is smithing (ie a boatload of leather padding) and slight tailoring/jc raises.

      Good luck!

        Not entirely true . . .

I have the 8th Shawl, have MQd one for a friend and getting ready to do another MQ. The catch is that you have to redo the shawls up to the 7th so that you can keep asking for the Issue Box. (Fine, call me crazy)

If you don't want to redo them then you can at least get one MQ by the method described above: combine and turn in your Issue box and immediately request another one.

Why in the world would you need that? Loremaster Solstrin will happily give an issue kit to anyone who hands him a 7th shawl.

Both the smith and the MQ recipient must have a 7th shawl. Have the smith hand in his shawl, get the box, make and combine the armor, and take it to the Dain. The smith will get the approved kit and the marching orders. Also make sure the MQ recipient has his shawl approved by the Dain.

Now, both the smith and the MQ recipient head to Iceclad. Smith hands the box and orders to the general, they walk the general, and when the avatar spawns, the MQ recipient hands in his approved shawl and gets the 8th, without any smithing. The smith keeps his 7th shawl to MQ for someone else.

There have been several threads about this in the past; here's a good one:

I believe what Niellya was saying was if the person who was going to do the Smithing part already had their 8th shawl done, they'd have to redo the entire process to get 7 again.

Exactly, why would you do all the shawls up to 7 and not want 8 for yourself? And if you're going to do it just to MQ it multiple times, might as well redo them on the same char who already has the skills instead of on another char.

Or as stated above, you can squeeze one MQ out of the process without redoing them and still get 8 yourself.
