9th shawl???

As I was preparing to do the crawl for the 8th shawl, someone sent me a tell mentioning a 9th shawl. Has anyone seen or have any information on this? I thought I was all done <grumbles>.

Of course that may change in the future, but I doubt it.

My understanding is this: At one time there were plans to have ten shawls like there are ten rings in the Coldain Ring quest. People who have heard that aren't imagining things. But then when there were only the first few shawls available, that project was given to someone else. That person, for whatever reason, finished the quest off with just eight shawls instead of ten.

So while it is in theory possible that more will be added, no plans to do so have been announced. I don't think it was outright stated but it was implied that the eighth shawl is as powerful an item as that series of quests was intended to produce, so we're not missing out on a better item or anything.

*nodnod* I remember this too. If I remember correctly, it was in a thread about one of the Fan Faires back in 2002. Might have been '03. But the developer in charge was asked if there would be any more and Tsbaity's quote pretty much captures the essence of his reply.

Your 8th shawl is the same either way and another step would have just made it better =P

Considering the ring is 10 ac on a finger slot and 100 hp, I really wish they'd add 1-2 more steps to the shawl. 10 ac 10 all stats 10 all saves 80-100 hp/mana FT4 and same focus effect would be very very nice and people would get a lot more use out of them.

If wishes were fishes we'd never go hungry as my father used to always say =P

If they don't either raise the focus effect on the 8th shawl to include level 70 spells (assuming that will be the new level cap) or give us a new shawl quest I'm gonna be bummed.

Getting around fictional power limitations is easy if you have a little creativity.

It could easily be reasoned that to make the shawl more powerful it would have to be blessed by the god himself at the seat of his power (in his home plane) and not just by his Norrathian avatar.

To do this would require special tools made by tradeskillers GMed in more than one skill with combines trivialing at 335. With that level of difficulty they could justify almost any increase in power since only a handful of players per server would ever have one.

because items several expansions old are getting outdated but still require weeks to get. I personally believe each expansion should update these older quests with just one new step. Sure shawl 9 and 10 will be really tough but well worth the reward. And 10 or 11 should definetely require 70+. Just like more grimmel quests will require 70+ plus higher trivials and more tradeskills.

I can't wait to see end game OOW ppl's XP grps drop POP gods, will be fun!

Maybe 1 grping some is a little out there, but definately < 12 ppl can do it I bet, it's like Kunark to Pop. Old stuff dies easily.

VZ can be one grouped right now....

M. Marr will be one groupable, just like AOW is now. They will just need a proficient enchanter and very good dps.

I could see the Tier one gods like Grummus and such being possibly one grouped as well.

The one that will make me cry is when it will be efficient to go one group the bosses in VT. Even with 5 more levels the zone mobs had too much HP to make it worth the time.

Anyhow, back on topic. I really hope they DON'T upgrade the old Velious content quests. It would be nice for them to add a new quest for us to do, that way you can have both a reasonably shawl and a new uber OOW mask or something.
