  • Velium Hound Fur

    Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone can give me advice on the velium hound fur. I think I am going to have to solo the hounds as I don't often see the fur for sale (and don't have enough cash to buy it all). I am a Bard of 53 Seasons. Is this feasible? If not at what level can I start thinking about trying to aquire the furs myself? I have just finished the 7th Shawl and am a bit burned out on farming/tradeskilling for the time being so perhaps I will work on leveling up a bit before heading to WW.

However - can anyone pass down some stratigies for the hounds, and any warnings/advice about other things I might encounter in WW. My COV faction is warmly so I believe I am safe from the dragons?

    Thanks in advance,
    Corgar

I can't answer the hound part too much other than to say they roam all over so track is required. That zone is so darn huge.

Factionwise, you'll be ok from 90-95% of the zone, though ice burrowers (big wurms), a couple KoS to all dragons and 1 KoS to all wyvern are present in the zone so you'll have to watch out for them. When you first zone in, off to the left there's sometimes a "slain dragon" that's blue and he's KoS to all as well.

Not being proficient in bardways, I can only answer this from a druid perspective. Druids can solo them at low 50s, using fear animal. If you can replicate that so that you don't get beat on, I'm sure you can solo them without troubles. Not sure what levels your charms work on, might be something to post at the bard boards.

Just a few things to keep in mind:

Don't go to WW unless you are dubious or better to CoV, if you are KOS to the dragons you will have a heck of a time being able to find the hounds without other aggros.

The hounds run at a fast SoW, Selo's and SoE will outrun them and it is easy enough to run into Dragon Necropolis if you have problems.

The hounds are hard hitters but don't have as many hp's as the other animals in zone.

The hounds have a big aggro radius in fact about the same size as most my spells - when I go hunting them I run around invis, get behind them and snare.

You may get some resists, be prepared.

        Good luck!

Have they done something to the spawn rate on Velium Hounds? I used to farm the furs a year or so ago when I was doing the shawl quest for my druid and there were always 4-6 hounds up if no one was killing them already. Lately I've gone to the zone and the most I've seen are 2 hounds, usually in the water. There have been times when I can't find a single hound on track. Is there a place holder now? Any information is most appreciated.

A couple things happen. Best time to get them is after a server reset, most of them share the spawn table with the wyverns and the other unnamed CoV friends. So eventually most of the spawns get converted to non-hounds that no one likes to hunt because of the faction hit. There seems to be two hound only spawns in the zone from what I could tell, but they wander everywhere and were getting stuck inside hills or underneath the world after Gates of Discord came out. You can get these out by getting close enough for them to aggro on you - not exactly fun depending on your class. I tend to run back and forth in the area between the two scars to try and track them when (if) they pop, and wander about if I can't find any. (Most often when I find them stuck, they are in the water to the NW of the Dragon Necropolis or in the NE corner of the zone.)

            Good luck!

You'll do just fine. Chant kite works as well in WW as in any other zone, and if you keep charm in your playlist you'll be able to swarm as well. If you have the patience for it, you can also take out some of the names in zone, like Tantor. (charm a mob, send at Tantor. Break charm before Tantor kills your pet, chant down your ex-pet. Repeat ad nauseam.) The xp is good in WW, but be careful - a corpse run won't be fun.
