  • Doing Aid Grimel Tailoring Tunic at 220 vs waiting till max skill

So I've seen this brought up a few times in other threads but I've heard some interesting points on both sides and I'd like to hear what you guys think. Personally it seems to me that the difference in sucess rates from 220 plus geerlok to 240 plus geerlok are negligible enough to make it worth it to just do the the sap farming until you suceed, but then I can solo the spiders so I may be biased. I'd like to hear others thoughts on this.

If I could solo spiders I would fdefinetly go for it at 220 + geerlok.

If you already plan to GM tailoring by all means wait. ESPECIALLY if you plan on doing it within a matter of weeks or a few months. Each combine costs you 60-75k (even if you farm saps the saps can be sold for cash thus I count it as a cost even if you farm them). If you are content with 200 tailoring and DONT want to skill up further I say give it a go.

Get to 230 seems to be a good alternative

As someone who failed the robe 6 times (increasing skill after each) and just failed again once when going for the 2nd earring, I personally couldn't imagine NOT raising skill, but that's just me.

Someone on my server failed the robe 19 times with 250 tailoring skill + geerlok (made it on try #20).

I wonder if someone who understands that new formula from the Faire could plot some stuff out on this one, since everyone's failure rates seem to be higher than normally expected on this one quest item.

Its completely random at ANY skill I went 2 for 2 at 250 skill, but I know some people who went 2 for 3 and 220 skill and 1 for 5 at 250 skill. Its a crap shoot just hope you get lucky. I always hit combine then walked away befor elooking at the curser... both times I saw a blue robe

I'd say the 3 things to consider are:

              1) Your bankroll. If you can afford to blow a lot of extra plat on saps then go for it now.

              2) Whether or not you want to skill higher. If you are only doing this for the earring then you may as well be done skilling and trying for the signet.

              3) Are you ready for the next steps? If you have a Hope Stone and some BPP's banked and are 220+ fletching then you have more reason to try step 5 now then someone who would still need to work fletching up to continue.

After failing for my first time on the robe, I'm finding it had to motivate myself to go farm more saps.

I find myself puttering......"Oh well I can get flteching up now since I have a little time" or "Well I have a few backpacks of silks I'll top off tailoring" or "Wow I didn't realie I had three stacks of planes pebbles, maybe I can work pottery". It's almost as if I am looking for reasons *not* to farm saps.

How does one find motivation to keep at it? Especially 20 times?

Elsewhere you can see I gave up motivation. Found out farming ornate in Sol Ro was MUCH quick, more lucrative and I gained exp slightly quicker (since I was duo'ing rather than grouping).

In two weeks, I landed enough ornate to finish off Robe #1 (and robe #2 since I'm going for the regen ear as well) while in "farm" mode on saps, I spent almost 2 months trying for them.

Man you guys have better luck than I do with sol ro. Went there today, trioed with a shammy and rogue, we did pretty well, constant killing, got no ornate in 4 hours :/. I never do well with sol ro heh, I end up with more money MLing poe groups heh. Anyway I got my first sap today from a field 1 group, saw 1 in 4 hours of keeping the field clear.

I am was at 236 unmodified (247 with geerlok) when I did my first attempt. Back news, I failed the combine, good news, I got a skill up 237. I can't see how 3 skill ups will make a difference, but at 30-45k a sap, it is definitely cheaper to get the skill ups than try again.

Sounds like server economies are pretty varied. On MT they used to be 15-20k, but lately they raised to 25k. One (known high priced seller) has them for sale for 30k but he rarely ever sells his stock.

On xegony the saps have been as low as 8K and there are often some around 10 to 15K.
