  • A suggestion about the Aid Grimel write-up

I don't know if EQTC usually links to other sites, but if you do, I wonder if it would be possible to turn the names of the flags required in each step of the Aid Grimel write-up into links to the quest write-up to GET those flags over at Allakhazam's.

The problem is that everyone has a different name for each flagging quest. In order to find out what "Help Adler and Mylik" meant, I had to look up "Mylik" in the quest search at Alla. Looking up "Adler" only took me to a quest writeup for Aid Grimel that was identical to the one here. So sometimes it's difficult to figure out if you have the flag required or not. Another example, taken from the first step, is that it says you need Bertoxx. Okay, great...do that mean I need to be flagged FOR Bertoxx (by doing the Carprin cycle) or does that mean I need to have KILLED Bertoxx. In this case, I've done both, but further into the quest, I'm keyed or flagged to do certain things, but haven't actually done them yet, and it may make a difference.

    Anyhoo, just a suggestion.

Those are both good suggestions but would both take a whole lotta work. All of the information that's needed is there, just a few extra clicks away, so this will be a lower priority than some of the new information that needs to be added. I'll add them to my list of projects but can't promise it'll be done soon.

I am sure if someone who has done the quest (or a good researcher) would write up a paragraph on exactly what flags are needed (for each step) then the modoraters here would be happy to add this info to the quest section.

A list of components and zone/mobs that drop them would be great too.

I did something similar on a Quest thread I'm moderating as folks give their progress. It's not pretty but is a start for someone else to take and do whatever they want with it. My list was specifically for items that cannot be purchased from a vendor so would have to be flushed out (and it doesn't break stuff down).

Non vendor materials needed for each are as follows:

QUEST #1 (BLACKSMITHING) ~ nightmare mephit blood (PoN-mephits), raw diamond, celestial essence, storm rider blood (BoT-stormriders), a drop of pure rain, sandstorm pearl

QUEST #2 (BREWING) ~ (6) Kaladim Constitutionals, celestial essence

QUEST #3 (JEWELRYCRAFT) ~ celestial essence, blue diamond, coldain smithy hammer, coldain velium temper

QUEST #4 (POTTERY) ~ (3) sacred water (PoV-no drop), iron oxide, permafrost crystals

QUEST #5 (TAILORING) ~ (6) fire arachnid silks (PoF-spiders), fire mephit blood (PoF-mephits), raw diamond, bar of molten air (PoF), (3) obsidianwood sap (PoF-spiders)

QUEST #6 (FLETCHING) ~ (2) air arachnid silks (PoAir-spiders), featherwood bow staff, clockwork grease (PoI), 2 wind metal cams

          QUEST #7 (BAKING) ~ (3) bristlebane’s party platter

          FINAL ITEM ~ hope stone

I've been working on the assumption that I need to kill Bert before I start... that is correct, yes?

You can't get the text for the first part of the quest (smithing) from Aid Grimel until you have the Bertoxxulous flag (which requires the various preconditions: Grummus kill, finish Carprin cycle) and have rescued Adler and Milyk (after the Bert kill).

                Correct.

On a side note, you can skip this part if you aren't a 220+ smith. You have to be a 220+ brewer and you have to have a partner who is properly flagged, a 220+ smith and 220+ brewer. Here's how it works.

                1. Player A (Your partner) makes the BP for step 1

                2. Player A turns in the BP and gets ear 1

                3. Both Player A and B (You) say the text to get the barrel and dust from Grimel

                4. Player A makes the Twice-brewed Constitutionals and then combines them in his barrel with ear 1

                5. Player A gives the resulting drink to Grimel

                6. Player B then gives his barrel to Grimel and receives ear 2

This is just to allow you to start the quest before your smithing is 220+. You will still have to get 220+ to get ear 8.

Does this let you get around the flag requirement for Bertox too?

Yeah, my main problem is the flag requirements... tradeskills are the easy part. Hah.

It appears that Grimel doesn't check your success for previous steps. Specifically, I had killed Saryrn first, then Bertox, then TT (including the running around and chatting for each flag, with trips to the Seer as appropriate). After killing Bertox, I did the first step of the quest. After killing TT, Grimel let me start both the Brewing step (requires TT) and the Jewelry step (requires Saryrn) at the same time.

Obviously, I can't complete the JC step until I do the Brewing step first (since you need the signet for the final JC combine), but it's interesting that he let me start the steps.

I wonder ... if someone without the Bertox flag but with the TT flag (and 220+ brewing) gave Grimel the line to start the Brewing step ... do you think he would give you the brew barrel?
