  • Sneak and Shawl turnins

I am a 65 halfling druid and have just gotten up all of my tradeskills to the level necessary up to the eigth shawl, the only problem is, I am KoS to Dain and Coldain, so my question is this; what faction is needed for the shawl turnins and if it is indifferent or lower, will sneak work instead of spending the time to raise my faction. If necessary I can have friends clear all the coldain around the turn in mobs, so that woudn't be a problem.

    Any info would be appreciated

    Thanks,

    Niran

Dubious to Dain is enough. Just turned mine in 2 days ago.

    [edit]

As for the rest of the parts, your "natural" progression (from doing shawl 1 to 7) should have taken you to at least amiable. I didn't do any factioning other than the shawls and it was fine.

From what I have heard sneak will not work to make you non-KOS for any turn in. It only works to raise dubious and apprehensive to indifferent.

(see that Moderator tag - well that is for the Vazaelle marketplace, my posts and opinions should not be considered as anything but my own and not reflect poorly on the folks doing all the hard stuff here. )

Sneak makes you indifferent to all mobs whose "backs" are turned. It does work for turnins while scowls/threatening/dubious/apprehensive, if the faction needed is indifferent or lower.

Though NPCs have the annoying habit of turning to face when you hand stuff to them it can be worked around.

I know Dunthor is right about sneak turning all mobs whose backs are turned to indifferent, I used to bank down in runnyeye all the time using sneak and I am max KoS to the gobbies, I also used to turn in deathfist belts on my iksar when I was KoS to freeport, I just wasn't sure that Sony hadn't implemented a loophole so it couldn't be done for major quests like the shawl.

Thanks for all the help and fast responses!

Unless I'm mistaken, all class's sneak skill is the same, the only difference is rogues can hide and sneak simultaneously, eliminating the problem of getting behind the mob without being seen, however, I'm sure that can be fixed using a combination of lull and mem blur. However, I'm not positive, does anyone have experience in using non-rogue sneak in the shawl?

Nothing sees through sneak while their back is turned. It seems kind of strange, but I think Sneak is the only means which can't be seen through while "working" - even SoS has mobs that see through it, but not sneak.

Not the shawl, but I know monks and wood elves who've used sneak to successfully do turnins while having insufficient faction. Should be the same, *assuming* indifferent faction will work for the shawl.

Dubious faction is enough for the Dain parts of the shawl, so indifferent should be fine.

The only trouble I see is that for the 8th shawl walk the general is on Coldain faction and would agro you.

Other factions to think about for the shawl crawl:
                      • Gnome Pirates in Iceclad
                      • Gnolls in Iceclad

I don't mind getting my coldain faction up, it goes pretty quick and would be a snap compared to Dain faction, thats what I'm really worried about.

There are only a few mobs in the game that raise Dain faction; and all of them are on King Tormax (KT from now on) faction (about 10 giants). All of which are, in Kael, south in the building housing KT's throne (item 12 on this map ). Turning in a lot of toes for shawl 1 may also help.

You may find this old post from me about kael factions useful. The most relevant part for your issue is:
There are very few tormax faction mobs around, but if your guild is still killing vindi/tormax and you take notes....
A - if the mob raises coldain and CoV faction, the newly departed was on kromrif faction
B - if the mob raises dain and yeli factions, the newly departed was on tormax faction
C - if the mob lowers tormax, and did not raise the factions in B, then it was on kromzek faction.
I have not found any exceptions to this, but if there were any, it would not surprise me in the least.
One or 2 KT kills should get you non kos with the Dain. Bad thing is that KT has a 7 or 8 day spawn timer and usually lasts about 1 hour after popping. If the lead guilds on your server are not very friendly, then you will probably never see KT unless you win the race. And I have seen competing guilds train Vindi + his guards + the arena mobs to the WL zone, just to kill off competing raids. Although nowadays, Vindi can be single grouped with elemental+ geared folks, even though a group that can do Vindi, needs nothing he can drop.

If you go to the throne room to kill mobs for faction, please note that they are a bit weaker than most PoV mobs, so if you have a decent group, you just might be able to exp group your way to non-kos. Start at the bank, and work south. Some pulls will have 3-4 giants coming. I believe that a couple of the KT factioned guards are level 65/66.

As for sneaking, the Dain's throne room has several dain faction guards (Royal Guardsman XXXX) standing next to him that you will have to sneak past.

In a previous guild I was in, one of the raid leaders decided to deguild when almost no one showed up for a dain raid he wanted to run (go! go! drama queen!). He did NOT want to hear about folks who wanted to preserve their dain/coldain faction. The issue you are facing now would have been faced by about 30-40 people should that raid have actually taken place.
