5th shawl...cyrstal threads?????

HI, I just started back on the shawl quest and have spent the last couple of nights in velks hunting spiders. In about 40 kills I have not seen one crystal thread for the 5th shawl. Have the changed the drop rate or the mob that the drops the thread? I knew they use to be common here but have not seen them lately. If anyone has seen them could you let me know that it still drops.

I got my last few recently... and saw some last night (sunday 22nd). Make sure you are killing the semi transparent spiders... they drop the threads

The spiders with "Crystalline" of any kind in their names tend to have a much better rate of dropping the threads for the 5th shawl.

And they never seemed all that common. I was lucky -- they were still tradeable when I did mine. People all over the zone were giving their drops to me in exchange for c2.

Top Shelf is the key

I would recommend hunting in the 'Top Shelf' or highest level of ramps where Crystal Fang spawns. It seemed that in a night of hunting about 2-3 hours, we had nearly 60 threads drop. Hope that helps.

I wandered into Velks for the first time ever in the hopes of starting my thread collection. End up at the 'Top Shelf', or US (Upper Spiders) as they called it for about 4 hours. Got 91 threads in the process!
Only failed making the fibers twice, so I had plenty left over, which I gleefully destroyed after successfully making the shawl shortly afterwards.

Now to figure out the best way to kill sirens. having found 6 each of the manes and whiskers so far.

Thanks Harliquinn for your helpful post about where to hunt in Velks. I haven't hunted enough in Velks to know the names of the camps, but I'm ready to get started on this part of the quest.

I collected 60 of em today in about 3-4 hrs. Once people started showing up in the zone I started asking if I could loot them. They showed up ONLY on the 'Crystalline XXXX' spiders (just like the guide says)... i would get 2-4 a pop when one did happen to have them. Be sure you are killing those see through guys (have see invis up, as they can invis themself, maybe you just couldn't see the ones you needed to kill.)

Anyway, got that all done. Got all my parts for #6 except the Sirens Hair, will be collecting that soon. (c:

I went to Velk's a while back as part of a guild group for one of my guildmates working on the shawl, and nearly every crystalline spider we killed dropped at least one.

I went to Velk's the other night, and killed probably half a dozen crystalline spiders, and didn't get a single one.

Yes, you can get a bad run sometimes. It just seems to be that way.
