The Gloomingdeep dagger is part of the new tutorial. You hand a bronze bar (random drop off kobolds) to Absor and he turns it into a dagger for you. Supposed to be an introduction to questing i guess.

        EQRPG quests

I would imagine we can expect no further quests from the eqrpg lore after the release of Heroes of Norrath (Oct 8th), and I doubt we'll have any fixes for the bugs in the quests that exist now (unfortunately).

Check out the release for the Plane of Hate book at [PDF] Plane of Hate and look at the line that reads 'The final EQRPG release until a major launch in the fall" and the release for the Heroes of Norrath book [PDF] Heroes of Norrath that says "Insider information on an original online quest".

I'm lead to believe that this 'major release' is an allusion to EQ2 and that saying 'final' and that Heroes of Norrath includes 'vast amount of EQII lore' (see Heroes of Norrath Goes to Press) means we're looking at one more quest that may or may not wrap up the loose ends in the other eqrpg quests, then any new material will be EQ2 related. It is possible (and if it is then we're screwed in old EQ) that the 'original online quest' will be in EQ2 and we get nothing in old EQ.

Buzz in White Wolf's official EQRPG forums seems to agree with my assessment that new material released will be related to EQ2. See the thread: Everquest RPG2?

It's a shame, but if it were left up to sony I'm sure any new quests from this would be as difficult as Veeshan's Peak 2.0 and therefore inaccessible to casual players anyway.

Want more info? In that thread is a link to the White Wolf insider for Oct '04-Mar '05 and it includes release dates for an 'EQ2 Gazeteer' in November, an 'EQ2 Player's Guide' in December, and an 'EQ2 Spell Guide' in January (page 32). The link for that document is WW Insider Oct-Mar (PDF) Nothing old EQ related on that new releases list, and the product list for EQRPG has been updated with the EQ2 books as the new core books (with the old PHB and GMG delegated to an 'Everquest 1 RPG' category).

          Bumpity

Thought I would have another shot at this. Tried combineing dark and normal phylactery with Mana Crystals in the Mage advanced tradeskill book. DNC

Handed the Mana Crystals to all of the OOT involved NPC's thjey all handed them back with unneeded message. Havnt gotten arround to trying miragul in EF but doubting this is involved.

Can anyone think at all of anything we could do with this. Are the earlier quest tradeskill combine molds flagged with the tradeskill flag? I cant for the life of me remember.

I feel that the mana crystals are ment to be handed to some NPC - which one is a bit of a mystery. Did anyone compile a listing of all the NPC's that they have tried to hand the Mana Crystals to? Might start working on this.

Had another look in lucy the other day - those 3 items are STILL missing. I am guessing one of them is another phylactery result like a version 3 but the other 2 I am not sure of - thinking somekind of other drop or intermediate step from mana crystals - like powdered mana crystals or something

Anyways just having a go at rekindeling interest in this quest to get people talking about it again.

Anyone about that understands database files in game that can locate items in it by any chance - duno if thats possible

I always thought that the Vial of Palatable mana was an interesting item (although the increase you get for teh cost of the mana vials needed to be increased a little, +100 to mana pool for purified mana is too lo.)

But it's not viable to make outside of the quest since getting the sea-foam sugar requires turning in a Tome of Miragul every time, making it even more expensive.

I had hoped that the Mana Crystals would be a way of making more palatable mana vials....either directly or perhaps by getting the Assistant to fork over more sea foam sugar =)

I wonder if we can get Nolrog to add this as a sub-item under the existing top ten entry for the Grand Robe/Tunic balancing? Right now the entry lists two things, adding a reward or incentive for melee classes, and adjusting the Ghoul of Takish Hiz spawn rate or Spiritual Anchor drop rate. Maybe we can add a third sub-item requesting a clue about the mana crystals, or at least confirmation that it currently doesn't have a use.

Having said that, I really like Maevenia's idea of using the mana crystals to make more palatable mana vials in place of sea-foam sugar.

I'm surprised that we haven't seen more cross-over quest from the RPG books, but my guess is that the pen-and-paper folks are focusing more on the EQ2 RPG products now. I was getting very curious about the Marnek series of quests that have been introduced so far.

Bleh - handed the crystals to every NPC I could find in North Freeport - nada - guess its not supposed to go there at least. Man throw us a bone developers :/ I guess there isnt much call to revisit old quests that often.

There must be a use for it - There is no reason to have it produced at all unless there was some planned combine with it.

Guys, you need to keep in mind the context of the quest. This quest was introduced from the pen-and-paper EQ RPG; in fact, it's the latest in a series of such quests that share a common background and back story. At the time the quest was finally solved, one guess was that the Mana Crystals could be used in the next such quest. However, if memory serves, Swords and Sorcery (the publishers of the pen and paper game) have stopped making EQ based products and are now working on an EQ2 RPG. (I haven't actually checked this, though, so I could be wrong.) Therefore, there is a possibility that the original intended use for the crystals may no longer exist.

Having said that, it's still possible the EQ developers will find a use for the mana crystals. Many people have suggested using them to allow the making of additional palatable mana vials, and I think that would be a fine use.

I think what really stinks is that shadowknights can no longer do the phylactery quest.

AND there's no known use for mana crystals.

Since when can't SKs do that quest? Did a search of the boards (main site not working for me ATM) and last post I saw about that was yours saying you were on your way to completing the quest after some faction work.

They fiddled with the quest. The starting NPC's now check your class and don't give you the note you need to take to the oracle if you aren't a class that can use the tunic or robe.
