  • Vah Shir Beastlord Quest: have I lost my cloak or not?

    Hi folks,

I've returned to EQ after a two-year absence, and I started a kitty Beastlord. I did all the citizenship quests and got my cloak. Then I did the first linked tailoring quest; I succcessfully produced the handwraps.

Then I gathered the ingredients for the next phase of that quest -- the four scorpion legs for the metal fasteners, and the two rockhopper legs. I had no trouble making the fasteners. (Does that step require any tradeskilling skill, or is it automatic?) But I failed on the final combine to make claws; at least, now I realize I did. At the time I wasn't quite sure what happened; I just got my handwraps back, with a message saying I'd created an "alternate" item.

Well, at the time I didn't realize I could fail on the final combine. (Now that I've found this website, I realize that the claws aren't trivial to skill 40, and I'm at 20.) It was late, and I was tired and not thinking clearly. I convinced myself that maybe these gloves were claws in disguise (!), and thus that I'd finished the part of the quest. My quest-giver wanted me to turn in the claws + cloak. So I turned in the cloak... and the gloves. I figured he'd reject them both if I had the wrong things. I figured wrong. The quest-giver gave me the gloves back but he kept the danged cloak!

So have I lost the cloak or not? If I later turn in just claws, will that win the quest? Or do I have to go back and get a new cloak? If I have to get a new cloak, how do I do that? Do I start with the registrar all over again? <sigh>

I don't think I've ever experienced such frustration with a computer game since -- well, since the last time I played EverQuest.

    Well...... It's possible.

Because the quest guy wants the claws and Cloak, he will keep the cloak. If you make the claws quick and give them to him you could get the "win" for the quest. I would perhaps suggest a /petition and see if the GM will reimburse the cloak.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I won't be able to hand in the claws right away. Making the claws will take me a while; I've got to farm a bunch of stuff. So I'll try your suggestion of a /petition.

If that doesn't work, I assume I have to destroy my slate and start over?

Never destroy your plate. The only way to replace it is to have a newbie MQ it with you. I asked a co-worker to create a number of newbs to MQ them for my chars.

<< Never destroy your plate. The only way to replace it is to have a newbie MQ it with you. >>

Hmm, but will the game let me receive a second plate when I already own one? As I understand it, the idea with MQ'ing the plate quest is that the newb does everything up to Mignah; then the main steps in and takes over from Mignah, receiving the new slate from Mignah. But will Mignah give my main a new no-drop slate when I already have a no-drop slate in the bank (or inventory)?

Also, what's the danger in destroying the slate? The only quests I've really done are the newb citizenship quests and the first in the linked series of beastlord/tailoring quests. Both can be repeated pretty quickly. I think.

          Still, I will try MQ'ing first. Actually, first I'm trying a /petition.

To replace the acrylia slate completely, takes an item that you only get as a total newbie: you get it with your starting bag and food. It is MQable, but once you delete yours, you won't be able to get it again without MQing.

Please read the -Beastlord armor quest write up for details. Hand the slate to restart the newbie armor quest for your cloak.

              Saleani:

Thanks for your post. I have read that quest write-up, but it relates to the quest for the claws etc, not the quest for the cloak. So I am still not sure what to do. I guess I'll follow your advice, i.e.:

<< Hand the slate to restart the newbie armor quest for your cloak. >>

To whom should I hand it? I guess I'll try Poren or the main BST trainer. Should I also try the registrar?

I'm sorry, but Saleani has it wrong.

#1 you can get a new citizenship slate at any time by hailing Registrar Bindarah.

#2 Giving Poren your slate will restart the claws quest, but will not give you back your newbie cloak that you get from the BST GM.

Picasso is right, you need to MQ the cloak.
                  #1 Destroy your citizenship slate.
#2 Get a new Acrylia Slate from Mignah.
#3 You or a friend creates a new Vah Shir, any class.
#4 The alt starts the citizenship quest and turns in the Tax Report to Registrar Bindarah, but not the Slate.
#5 Picasso turns in his slate to Registrar Bindarah and gets the note to the King.
#6 Picasso continues citizenship quest, and gets new cloak from the BST GM.
