  • Tormax faction? Yelinak head?

Is there someway to get my faction from kos to able to turn in Yelinaks head to Tormax without hurting my Coldain faction. I am on shawl 7 and ring 9 and frankly, don't want to ever kill dwarfs. I just like the little boogers. I am a 65 bard and can kill anything that doesnt summon me. Other than killing Yelinak over and over, any other ideas?

It is by design extremely difficult to have both coldain and giant faction. Only ogres of Rallos are non-kos to both by default. I forget how it all works but I did figure out quite some time ago that it probably could be done by others, with difficulty. But I remember that it would have involved repetition of a delivery quest, probably a LOT of times.

I do know that shortly after Velious release there was some tweaking to the faction hits because it was too easy to have good faction with both giants and coldain.

Its been long time since I've played with Velious factios so bare with me.

Tormax - Yelinak, Dain, select dragons/dwarves
      Kromzek - CoV dragons
      Kromriff - dwarves

Does NToV give kromriff/kromzek faction? or just negative CoV?

From what I recall, by killing only Yelinak and CoV dragons, you can eventually get your Tormax faction to ally, but you will still be kos to the Kromriff giants near him. Best bet would than be to find a Tormax raid, and talk to the raid leader. Once they clear his area (or possibly after the split him but before they pull him) you can do your turn in.

What factions are associated with kael armor?

Dain faction isnt as hard as some people make it out to be, if you can tag along for Vindy/statue/aow and tormax.

8th shawl can be done with dubious dain faction
10th ring can be done kos to dain once you have dagger/note

0 - I did this quest on my shaman: no one who wanted the head was logged on when we killed yeli. I had not finished shawl 8 and ring 10 when I started, so minimizing loss of dorf faction was of prime importance.
1 - I started at max kos to tormax (until that yeli kill anyway), max kos to kromrif and kromzek.
2 - I managed to get 3 more yeli kill faction hits in.
3 - I killed the sentries in skyshrine until I made dubious to kromzek (captain bvellos is on zek faction and will be someone you will meet a lot from now on, your neighbors will know he is patrolling the city or having a smoke break from hearing your screaming curses). I made over 70kpp farming velium in skyshrine. Little did I realize that I would need all that velium and more just for my own tradeskilling just a couple months later. Mobs in skyshrine raise zek, lower CoV and yeli.
4 - I then went to eastern wastes and hunted the factionless dwarves in the hut that captain beradain (ring 9) spawns. They can drop dwarf heads, and are reasonable exp at level 65. I usually partnered with someone in the low 50s who was able to snare and was lfg: they got all the exp, and as long as I got the heads, they could have the rest. estimated 50 or so heads.
5 - I also bought every coldain head that was for sale in the bazaar. estimated 100-150 or so heads.
6 - I turned in dorf heads and icepaw kobald paws untill I got to amiable with tormax. zek faction maxed out long before I got non kos with tormax. 2 stacks of the paws, all my twinkies have the silvery mask.
7 - Turn in was at amiable (rude 7 day spawn timer of KT with a 30 min life time). Faction went up to warmly with the turn in.

        Factions: (starting faction/ending faction)
        Claws of Veeshan ally/max kos
        Yelinak: amiable/max kos
        Tormax: max kos/warmly
        Kromzek: max kos/max ally
Kromrif: max kos/still kos - screw em
        Coldain: max ally/ally
Dain: apprehensive/dubious - the turn in for yeli's head was the only one lowering his faction

Things to note: the see invis guards south of the bank (same room as capt bvellos) are on zek faction. The see invis guards on the way to the arena are on kromrif faction. All the mobs in the arena are on kromzek faction. The see invis mobs under the bridge to tormax's room do not aggro on a level 65 player. When you approach the icy bridge leading to tormax's room, there is a windowy thing on the left, Dlammaz is on tormax faction, so is his place holder. There are very few tormax faction mobs around, but if your guild is still killing vindi/tormax and you take notes....
A - if the mob raises coldain and CoV faction, the newly departed was on kromrif faction
B - if the mob raises dain and yeli factions, the newly departed was on tormax faction
C - if the mob lowers tormax, and did not raise the factions in B, then it was on kromzek faction.
I have not found any exceptions to this, but if there were any, it would not surprise me in the least.

You need ally to kromzek to get the armor quests in Kael. All of the mobs in tormax's castle area are on Kromzek or Tormax faction. The exceptions are 2 mobs under the ice bridge, one of which sees through invis, and does not aggro on level 65 players.

There are 3 factions in ToV: Claws of Veeshan, Guardians of Veeshan, and the Hall of Testing mobs. Mobs on GoV start kos, killing them lowers CoV and GoV. NToV mobs are almost always on GoV faction (little drakes are on CoV). Mobs on CoV faction, when killed lower CoV faction and raise Kromzek. West wing and entrance mobs are all on CoV faction (and that is where you get your drops for the kael quests). Hall of Testing mobs are actually on GoV faction, but do not raise nor lower factions when killed (like the unnamed drakes and wyverns in cobalt scar). Cast alliance on a GoV mob, then run to HoT for confirmation if you don't believe me.

Step 3 took around 9 weeks of all my non-raiding, playing time. Steps 4-6 took around 3 weeks. I will never do another quest involving faction ever again. If trashing coldain faction was acceptable, the factioning would have taken closer to 2 weeks total. Maxing my barb shaman's factions in cabilis for the cudgel quests was easier. Enjoy your gloves. I do. For a shaman, they are close to the best in the game outside of time/elemental, vulaak and maybe vexthal.

Wow, what a great guide. Thanks Saleani! Sounds like my work is cut out. Where is the best place to kill sentries? I know very little of that maze called skyshrine, as we use CotH to get to Yelinak. Should I enter from WL or CS to find the sentries to kill?

I stood at the WL zone, inside skyshrine, to kill the sentries. I pull the zone ones, then went thru the portcullis and to the right to get to the room with Lt Milven (rare drop is drake egg, in all this time I only aquired 2 stacks of drake eggs) and the room next to that. When I was done with them, I would sit, then go afk for ~5 minutes while they repopped. Clarity of any kind was not needed. If any guild is doing a yeli kill, you are in perfect place when they coh up there. If all you want is faction, most are quite willing to let you tag along. You will learn quickly that the golem patroller, which pops behind the portcullis and roams, is on a shorter spawn timer than the others.

If there was a day when someone else would zone in to kill them, I would team up with them to clean out the pool room (where you zone to CS). There are casters in the room with the pool, and they take a little too much effort for a soloing 65 shaman with only ft4 and a horse. Plus they don't drop velium as often.

If you have a low level plate-class twink, you might want to get some help moving them to the WL zone in, just inside skyshrine. A rare drop is the sentry armor, much of which is no drop. Decent armor for low levels, useless for folks capable of hunting the mobs.

My path to skyshrine would take me through kael (oh! whats my faction now? Insert swearing here), then through WL for a game of "here kitty here kitty."
