  • MQ 8th shawl?

ok i saw another topic with this but it didnt really answer my question... after the 8th shawl war, could anyone with 7th shawl just turn theirs in for an 8th one? or does the avatar despawn after 1 turn in?

Anyone can turn in their 7th shawl to the avatar when if pops, but only one can be turned in before the avatar depops...

The obvious follow up question then is:

If I have the 7th shawl, but 0 smithing skill, is it quicker to raise smithing to an acceptable level or have someone who already has an 8th shawl redo all the shawl parts & do the smithing for me ?

I raised all my trade skills, except for smithing, on my mage - and then promptly decided I wanted the shawl on my newer cleric - i'm soooo tired of raising trade skills

The answer to that question depends on how good a tradeskiller you are, and what resources you have at your disposal. You can rocket to the 180s in smithing, from zero, in two days if cost is no issue and there's a healthy component market on your server. You can also set an army of newbies hunting for you on contract for a few days before you're ready to sit down and start, if you like. I had a friend do this sort of thing--he's gotten his smithing (he's human) to 246 in the past few weeks, and had 180ish in 2-3 days, and he was at zero until after ethereals were nerfed.

The real question is whether or not you'll ever find someone willing to do you that favour, and if it'll cost your firstborn (or more) in return. I recommend you plunk down in front of the forge. Fine plate takes you pretty far.

well the thing is I have access to multiple pcs & multiple people with 8th shawls that I can get the parts for fairly quickly... I just wonder if doing that is better than more carpal tunnel syndrome

I thought that the final part had to be done by turning in a No Drop item you recieve after combining the No Drop Armor in another No Drop container that you can only get by turning in your Seventh Shawl.

If that is the case, it could only be done by someone with the skill, who had their seventh shawl, and for whatever reason did not want their eighth. Or is willing to do all the work twice and let you reap the rewards first.

Aye, you need to MQ with someone who has the 7th shawl, not the 8th.
I have offered to do this for a friend of mine, but my druid isn't expecting to be able to get the gems soon anyway. I wouldn't do it for a stranger.

Well the thing is this - I could redo the 7th shawl once for someone that has an 8th shawl already & then have that person help me complete the 8th shawl for both my mage & cleric...that seems pretty worthwhile to me - I'd rather do shawls 4-7 three times than raise smithing 0->168 or whatever twice I think.

Yes it can be "MQed" in this way. Did it this weekend. Funny thing was the guy had not handed his 7th shawl into the Dain or the Chamberlain or the Seneschal and the Avatar refused to accept it. We had to run him to Thurg B, get him to hand in the shawl to the chamberlain, run him backl to IC and hope the Avatar stayed up. It did, and kept asking for the shawl. Finally managed to get the running around completed and a paladin got his new 8th shawl.
