  • Glowing Wurm Biles = suck

I've read all the posts. I know what to do. I've gotten one so far. They still suck.

I have spent my good ole time getting my skills up and did shawls 1-4 all in one day and shawl 5 stoped me cold.

*shudder* yeah, shawl 5 does suck pretty bad. On the other hand, I figured out a decent way to find them (just in time for the fifth one I needed, grr...). Make sure your dynamic lighting is on, wait till nighttime, get the best speed buff you can and a lev. Then, climb the mountain in the center of the zone, look straight up, tap F9 until you can see below you, and run around looking for glows. You'll see some from the velium spikes, but glowing bile is a slightly different color, you'll know it when you see it. Plus, you won't have to deal with aggro at that height.

      It could be worse

The last time I did this quest it took me twice as long to get 4 snow griffin eggs! By the time I had those eggs I had all the combines ready for shawls 3-7 and most of 8 done.

The easiest way to do the biles is to head to great divide at 5 PM game time, clear all the shardwurms outside the caves, mostly to the south and to the west by the dragon ring, and then watch the next 2 or 3 sets of respawns for the glowing ones. At 5-6 AM, leave and do something else until night (like finding snow griffin eggs).

Took me roughly 4 days about 2 to 3 hours per day to get my biles. Wish I had known the dynamic lighting trick tho hehe. Would have probably helped alot!
I just killed the wurms south of the cave there...but hey whatever you do ... careful of the itty bitty castle at the southmost part of zone in the water, if you click it...You are Entering Plane of Mischief...Zoning please wait. Haha I bout had a coronary lol. Good thing I have gate.

You can also make camp inside the cave, my spot was in the middle where there is some flat ground on either side of the river. You have wandering wurms there, and can pull from the inner caves as well. The nice thing about killing them inside is that a wurm with Bile on them will light up the cavern walls as the walk through, so you don't need to wait till nighttime to hunt them

When you spot for lit-up wurms another thing to take note of is that the bile will light the wurm up from above, i.e. the back of their neck and part of their back are lit up, as opposed to their belly and throat when they walk by a velium crystal.

If you have trouble seeing the glow, try hunting them without infravision...

I had a great run in tailoring last night - 75 attempts to go from 126 to 153 with various Wu's recipes! With the new tradeskill interface the worse part was gathering all those silks!

I'm going to start the 5th shawl now and was wondering if the components (threads, fibers, biles, etc) are still non-stackable? My bank is stuffed full of baking goods.

                The Scorched Earth Policy

There is a secret technique that will almost always get what you want to drop anywhere in Everquest. I personally have practiced this technique for over 3 years and it never fails to work better than the estimates or tricks I read on the web. The secret technique is called "The Scorched Earth Policy". What do you do?

                Kill Everything.

Don't bother trying to find glowing wurm butts. Don't follow some ritual handed down through your guild for 3 years. In this case, you go to the open area just outside the southern tunnel entrance and kill every mob you can find, wurm and not wurm, glowing or not. I got all my biles as a level 51 necromancer in less than 2 hours this way... and I had no buffs I could not cast myself and did the whole thing solo. It's easy... good luck!

i spent 6 hours this past saturday morning and only collected 4 biles. basically i did loops around the track in the caves killing every wurm i saw (ancient, elder and young). from what i read those are the only three that drop biles. some glowed, some didn't. i am 62 so i didn't get any experience.

however i did make about 2k pp in cash and gems (sold to vendor) and about 50 spell drops for various classes, some i gave away to friends and guildmates, the rest will be sold off in the vendor lot.

also killed a few of the named wurms for fun, will complete their quests later (i believe 1 or 2 of them mess up your coldain faction).

spent another 5 hours slaughtering top-shelf spiders for silks. went back out for my last bile and got it in 5 minutes. go figure.

made my 5th shawl (yahoo).. this was my second attempt. tailoring 114 base, and i used a geerlok.

someone told me that if the server notices mass slaughter it will drop less of highly-quested items. i could almost say i believe the theory. that or they are just !@#$#@ rare.

anyway, glad i'm done with 5th. on to the 6th. it's too bad my cloak of shimmering waters is better or i'd be wearing the 5th...

You realize the shawl is a shoulder item and your cloak is a back item right?

ok. call me stupid. you know i never tried it on. i always assumed it was a back item. sigh. well i often wear a summoned focus item on my shoulders anyway. maybe i'll swap on the shawl some times too for the stats.

i always assumed it was a back item, 'cause well, it drapes across your back. ok. your shoulders too.

                            thanks for the correction.

I just had images of you getting to the 7th or 8th shawl and wondering why you can't equip it on your back.
