Shawl 8 - Dain Faction

Ok the happy owner of a 7th Shawl and a complete set of armor sitting in the bank now finds out the those dain hunts so so many years ago have me at Max KoS, well I think it must be since I have also completed Coldain Ring 8 and he still hates me... Apart from killing King Tormax or his guards any recommendations on what I can do to get this faction raised quickly. I know the Shawl Quest and Ring quest raise the faction does anyone know which gives a better faction hit, etc.

I was max KOS did the shawl 1 and 2 4 times each, killed Tormax 5 times, did ring up to the 3rd and still threat. Its a LONG hard road. You can also do the the first part of the Psalchery (wow spelling pls!) for hits but it takes a small piece f velium per hand in for a SMALL faction hit.

What is the process for the velium hand in to get a Dain faction hit? Is that part of the Phylactery quest? More info on this would be great and does anyone know the faction required for the Dain to give the box for the Shawl?

its the first part of the quest involves and axe and a piece of velium if I recall.... also I think you only need non-KOS dain faction for shawl 8

Yes you will only need dubious faction with the dain. There is no need to get higher.

Collect Giant Warrior Helmets from Kael Drakkal. You can give them 4 at a time to Chamberlain Krystorf, who is close to the Dain. I started out Dubious to him, with a number of faction hits down for hunting in Icewell Keep (that gives a neg hit with the Dain as well). I turned in 4 Helmets a couple of times and ended up Amiably. I think I am Kindly now, after getting my 8th Shawl, but not sure.

Someone told me that every 2 turn-ins of 4 Helmets boosts you a faction level.

Has anyone done the start of the Pheno quest (handing in the velium & pick in Thurg) to get from max KOS to dubious with the Dain?

I missed this one in my research to fix my dain faction. Tormax really isn't an option for me, and I went to Kael this past Saturday and kille the few mobs by Tormax (Keldor, Dlammaz, his guards, etc), but that doesn't seem too viable either as respawn is longer on them than the other giants.

Redoing the shawl & ring over and over again doesn't really appeal to me either, and after farming a ton of velium to get my smithing 222, this one seems promising.

Just curious about how much velium might be required though.

Ok have completed the Axe and Velium part 20 times getting almost 40pct of a blue AAXP in the process, there is a small Dain faction increase each time but so far no change to me being KOS, will try another 20 and report back.

I did the Thurgadin part and handing the Velium Focus in to the Phenocryst over and over and over to build up my Geonid faction before hunting them for the eighth shawl. I went from apprehensive with the Geonids (needed help doing those turn-ins until I hit indiff) to warmly and got from dubious to apprehensive with the Dain. But that was after having done the first seven shawls and having taken no negative hits to Dain faction whatsoever. They are tiny Dain hits, and max kos is a loooooooooooong way from threatening, much less dubious.

It could be done, but you're going to be ready to kill all of Thurgadin by the time you make it.

Was scowl to Dain when I finished shawl 7. I did the coldain ring 1 - 8 and then did the Pheno quest (the velium and axe turnins) about 500 - 600 times before I hit dubious. The exp was 1/2 decent too.

Well as I can now see the faction process for the !@#$ Dain is going to be a real pain. I have completed Shawl 1 & 2 (2) more times as well as another 40 Velium hand ins and still KoS. Bumped into another char handing in Helms and he said that 3 bags took him from Dubios to Kindly, just need to get to Dub anyway. Does anyone know if you can charm the chancellor for the Helm hand in? Or of there is any other way to do the turn in while still KoS.

The Shawl components are burning a hole in one of my bags about now.

Something you might want to look into is the mini steps in the third shawl. Most of the turn-ins give faction hits and some of them give two (giving the food to the npc and handing in the napkin). IMO, these were a lot faster to do than the 1st and 2nd shawl. I'm not sure how much the amount of faction you receive varies though.

I got from scowl to threatening doing this along with the Phenocryst Focus quest in the span of about two weeks on and off. Then two Tormax kills took me up to aimably.

Seriously your looking at a world of pain getting Dain faction by hand. You're better off camping Tormax and tagging the faction hits when someone comes to kill him.

IIRC, 5 tormax hits will take you from max KOS to amiable.
