8th Shawl Snafu. Advice Requested.

I’ll try to sum up yesterday’s walk. We had about 14 people, but we didn’t have an enchanter. We had two bards to mez and a cleric to mem wipe. It didn’t work. A bard got aggro from the dwarf, seemingly from AoE manna song. *shrugs* We could not clear it. A necro took aggro while we all camped out. We came back, the necro FD and camped. But for some reason the dwarf went after a melee. The melee went LD and commenced to beat the dwarf into a bloody pulp. All we could do was stand by and watch as the dwarf slowly died.

Needless to say I was devastated. I thanked everyone for coming and logged out for a while. I logged back in later and decided to petition. Later that evening, while on an adventure, GM Brioma appeared and returned my approved armor box and the orders. I couldn’t believe it. That’s the first time I’ve ever petitioned and I didn’t really think anything would come of it. I can’t tell you how grateful I felt/feel. Thank you GM Brioma!

So now I have the same items I had when our group first gathered in Iceclad. Am I ready to gather another force and try it again? The 8th shawl walkthrough is filled with warnings about only being able to summon the general once. I assume this is referring to the dwarf in Iceclad I hand the approved armor and orders to. If so, with all the changes made to the game since the guide was written, is he still as hunted as he once was? I’d hate to contact everyone to meet on day X and he not be there. But I’m not in a position to be able to call on players at a moment’s notice. Any suggestions?

You can only summon the Dain (Icewall Keep) once. You have already passed this point and don't need to do this again.

The General is a static NPC and if the research is still correct, has a 4 hr re-spawn timer.

I had my forces ready yesterday as well, but he wasn't up at the appointed time and I just rescheduled. Good luck to you, I wish you well.

Piikaa is correct. The General and the Dain are completely different npcs. Getting ahold of the Dain is problematic. Getting ahold of the General is simply a matter of waiting for him to respawn if someone has done the quest within the last four hours.

Thank you for clearing that up. That’s one less thing I have to worry about. I’ll see when we can get another force together. And this time we won’t go without an enchanter and preferably a monk to keep the little guy busy.

You don't really need an enchanter for the 8th shawl, though it is nice for their buffs. Most of the mobs are unmezzable, uncharmable. Any melee can keep the general entertained if the casters need to med by whacking him once and running in circles. All the enchanter would be needed for would be to memblur him to loose melee aggro, and that can be done fine by clerics using Atone

I'd have just burned down the offending melee. LD players are considered NPC's by the server. You can attack and kill them.

Once, during a Lcea raid, one of our druids got charmed. Normally, that means the char is stripped clean of any buffs, due to several cancel magic-spells landing to remove charm... but not this time...

The druid went LD DURING charm, cancel magic did remove the charm, but also agro'd the PC-NPC, and even though Lcea went down, the LD drood actually managed to kill one of the CM casters

We've also seen a pet from a previous Lcea raid once... apparently it got charmed, mezzed and abandoned 4 days earlier

That is the most important #1 rule of any escort mission:

NO AEs!

Not even to heal. only single target spells of any kind.

And if the general does get agro on a member, don't heal or your healer will get agro. If you can't mem blur the general off, let the player die. Easier to cast rezz once than require you to make that armor again.

Frankly, I'm surprised that the GM returned your items. Congratulations on that.

I'm also surprised when I've had my Blood Rune Battle Wand returned to me from being in a NO RENT bag

Save yourself time.. dedicate a monk to entertaining the general, and have the chanter keep memblur up. Yes, clerics can atone, but they might be needed for other things.. like.. healing.. Chanter ae memblur works like a champ.

Btw, the dogs are mezzable.. except for 1 in the first pack.

Not to derail this thread but....

Among all of the dissatisfied comments folks have about GM's and customer service in EQ, GM Brioma is a gem of wonders.

I know plenty of folks that miss her on our server.
I also can tell you of the many things she did to help folks.

It's just too bad they can't all be Brioma, and since they moved the GM's around on the servers a while back, she's been missed.

I've done the walk with just clerics atoning and then with enchanters. It's much easier with enchanter/monk combo to get the little dude in line.

You should take every opportunity to smack the bejeezies out of anyone in your guild who gets charmed - too much fun. =)

Any FD class works well for keeping the general out of the fight. Personally I had 2 SOWed Necros taking turns gaining agro and kiting him around. Lots of fun : )

You don't need to kite the general. He hits like a total pansy. A druid can tank him indefinitely.
