  • 6th Shawl and tailoring

I recently finished the fifth shawl and am reading the spoiler for the sixth shawl. I see that the trivial level for the final combine is over 200. I also know that about 158 tailoring is a pain and skillups are a bit rare.

Right now my skill is 120 and I will certainly get to 158. My question is should I try to get my skill up past 158? Yes it will be expensive and painful Im sure, but I prob will get fewer failures on 6th shawl. On other hand, I could hold at 158 and I might have more failures on the 6th shawl.

Which way do you recommend? I just looking for the method that requires less time and money. I just want the shawl.

    Thanks for your input.

As has been repeated several times, most folks get their tailoring to 158, pick up a geerlok sewing contraption and hope for the best on the shawl combine. It's easier to collect the components for the shawl again in the event of a failure than to collect things to work on tailoring.

I thought they lowered those trivials a long time ago to like the 160-170ish range?

Either way, Zallarenya is very right. You can probably get the peices for the sixth shawl in a week if you try. There is NO WAY you can get your tailoring skill up even 10 points beyond 160 in that same time.

Well, if you want the 7th Shawl then you want the 8th shawl also. I hear what some people do, and what I am going to do myself, is this. Get to 158 and then hunt Velium Hounds for the Furs, combine with silver threads for the Royal Armor and with luck get skill ups to 176. If you have extra then make some Royal Armor to sell in the Bazaar and you can still get skill ups. I would still get a Geerlok and maybe enough stuff for 2 attempts but 176 is 18 points higher then 158, might just make that much more of a difference. Just my 2cp .

The hard drops for the 6th shawl are the siren hairs. I'd say, go ahead and hunt sirens to get your 2 hairs, and then based on how easily you can do that, decide if you want to just try on the shawl and hunt more sirens, or skill up more first. I would definitly finish out Wu's first though.

I was fortunate enough to have heard about the option for smithing the spools while it was still possible, and made myself two of them. Then, at an amazing tailoring skill of 117, I finally got my last item for shawl 5, made it first attempt, then immediately attempted shawl 6, succeeded first attempt, and got a skillup. :P

I am slowly working on number 7 now, but do intend on raising my tailoring significantly before I attempt it.

I would recomend getting to 158 off wu's (yes every single point matters) and then, if you can afford the time or the cash, do a combination of Velium Hound Fur and Rockhopper combines to try to get into the 160s.

It took me 6 failures at 6th shawl combine until I finally got it on the 7th try. This was with 158+ geerlok for most of the combines, the final one I skilled up to 163+ geerlok for (and had a shaman buff me with everything I could get). It took me about 14 hours to refarm all components as a 65 cleric with a 65 rogue helping for some parts. I promised myself I would delete my 5th shawl and give up if I got to 10 fails, but luckily I didn't

Good luck with it, it's a tough one.

You can get a few more points above 158. Go to bazaar, buy nightmare arachnid silks. They should sell for 25 to 50pp each.

Now go to PoK and find the fletcher merchant. He's relatively near the druid/wiz portal. He'll sell you wax.

Two silks, one wax, planar sewing kit, yields one string used for the nightmarewood compound bow. They trivial at 162 and sell in baz on my server for 100pp each. You can actually make a profit making these.

I made less than 20 of these and got all 4 skillups.

4 more points -- they can't hurt when doing the shawl.

Although I am 0 for 50ish on the Ceremonial Robes, I was successful on my first sixth shawl attempt this weekend, and it was not trivial at 178. I did use a geerlok.

If you need me, I'll be in Shadowhaven fletching to 180.

I hunted a few velium hounds for their fur, but I just couldn't see using the fur for skillups when I can sell the fur for about 400pp each in the baz.

Maybe the use mentioned above results in something tradeable?

The result of the velium hound fur tailored item is the padding necessary to make the armor used in the 8th shawl quest...

You may want to make the padding for the skill ups, and hold on to the padding for when you get to that part...

Did the 6th shawl 4 times on 4 different characters. Three of these characters were 158 at tailoring while the 4th was 166. Took me 5 attempts to get the 3 158 toons their shawls. Took the toon with 166 skill one try. 4 out of 6 are good odds in my book.

I did not have a geerlok when I did these combines though it might have helped.

I made my 6th shawl about 2 weeks ago, was not trivial at 191, though I remember reading on one of the boards that the trivial was in the 194-196 area.

This was my second attempt. First attempt failed on making the thread, at skill 178 plus Geerlock! (supposed to trivial at 148, go figure).

The padding was a good suggestion - I hadn't thought of that. Did 4 attempts at padding last Saturday, with only one success (skill 160 with gearlock). Was totally freaked out, but somehow managed to get my 6th shawl the first attempt. The padding did get me a couple extra skill ups, which is hard to do post 158. Beat getting sirens hairs again!

                              1st try

154 tailoring + geerlok 1st try success, lucky I guess, but I really like velium fur idea, I mean you need the furs for the 8th shawl anyways and I doubt anyone will get to the 6th shawl that is not shooting for the 8th eventually
