  • Finally got 7th shawl! Any tips for the 8th?

I thought there were only two types of shells, the necklace and the Runed Sea Shell with EB. I got the no drop swordfish tooth, the tusk, the hide, and everything else I needed. Then I went to do the first combine with the shell and it didn't work. That's when I realized I had the wrong two types of shells and I actually needed the third (the Runed Sea Shell with Endruing Breath).

Quick rant: Why the heck do they have items that are so similar that drop so close to each other?! That's most annoying.

Anyway, after a couple days of watching the bazaar, I finally found a good deal on the correct shell (I bought two just in case I failed. If not, I have an extra for a friend).

So, paying close attention to the guide, I finally made the 7th shawl, with no failures in the process!

Now that that's done with, I need to start collecting parts for the next shawl. After all the farming I've done so far, I'm really not looking forward to this last step. But I'm so close now, I don't dare give up.

Any tips on getting things for the 8th shawl? Could a 65 Enchanter solo everything well enough (hounds, wyverns, whatever)?

Thanks for all your help, EQT!

I found the 8th more fun than doing the 7th.

If you want to farm everything, Velks is a good place to get Velium (if you tag along with someone needing silks for 5th, you can help each other out - my wife saved the velium for me that she got whem she did her silk collection).

I just bought the tempers rather than making them - about 26PP each from a merchant in Thurg.

I don't know how well you can deal with Velium Hounds - I just bought my furs from people in Bazaar.

And the Gems that you need from WL are NO DROP, so you have to farm them. I did it was a L60ish Shaman (my wife) and a mid 50s MAG (I was mid 50s at the time) and it was easy.

And the shawl crawls are just plain fun.. I won't turn up a chance at helping out with one of those. I must have done a dozen shawl crawls, all of them successes.

I'm now 61, and the shaman is now 65 with her own Shawl.

Here's my experience with 8th shawl goodness:

Velium: Being the beastlord that I am I struck out for Crystal Caverns and laid waste to the orcs. Anyone with a pet can do this with ease and I could keep the whole place clear at lvl 62. Took me a few hours since blocks are a bit on the rare side.. ended up letting a host of small bricks rot as I ran out of room and didn't want to stop. (Note: Take some weight reducing bags, you'll need them if you don't want to make multiple trips to get enough)
Tempers: I made them since I had the skill and hadn't pissed off the otters yet.. just droped by on a trip to ToV.. made sure to have spares in case I failed combines
Furs: Ugh.. the bane of the whole thing. Without track they're a huge pain. I had the mild help of sence animals, but mastidons, rhinos, and even the ice burrows are flaged animals so I still had to run around in circles. In all I must've spent at least 12 hours collecting 10 furs. Grab a druid or a ranger (unless you are one) and go when the server's just recently been reset so the spawn isn't entirely wurms (You -are- non-KoS to CoV, right?)
Gems: After much experimenting I found a room with about 10 of the genoids in it and was able to clear it out without hardly any downtime. A total of 4 or so hours here. On the upside misc gems drop often so I made a fair ammount of pp from the endevor. Basically just get a rythem going.. the glowing genoids can pop from any location so you can just kill one of them over and over and eventually get the gems you need (Though you're sure to get a ton of one kind before getting enough of all three)

In the end I failed the armorcrafting part of the leggings and had to make a mad dash to the bazaar and spent most of the earnings from the genoids, but everything else went smoothly.

My best suggestion is thus: Stop when it ceases to be enjoyable... no sence hurting yourself. If the urge to toss your keyboard out the window arises take a break. It's a long, painful process, but the rewards are super.

Thanks for the replies and tips, they will come in handy.

Normally I would buy the furs, but I just spent a lot of money buying Voice of Quellious and Vallon's Quickening.

Hmm, actually now I'm kind of looking forward to it. Sounds like a fun challenge. And that 20% extended duration on the 8th shawl will work great with extended AAs, when I get them. (Yeah, I know, it will work great even with out those AAs /grin)

If you're not KoS to COV, then farming the furs yourself will be easy. If possible, go after a server reset - there will be a lot more hounds up to begin with.

If, however, you are KoS, you will need to be very careful since everybody wanders (except Klandicar and "the dragon by the ToV zone in whose name I forget" and the perma rooted guys, unless someone's aggroed them away from his spawn point). Getting a tracker will be much easier then because they can track and pull to you (I'm max KoS and I like pulling to the righthand wall [whatever direction that is]).

Got my last furs this morning! Thank you, SOE patch, for the server reset!
