  • 6th Shawl Question

I'm hoping to one day complete all eight shawl quests. I have just completed number five and would like some feedback before starting the sixth. Here are my current tradeskill levels: Baking 143, Pottery 168, Brewing 188, Fletching 162, Jewelcraft 172, Smithing 190, and Tailoring 160. As you can tell from the list, every tradeskill but Tailoring is at an appropriate level for the shawl quests.

So, to those who have gone before me, I ask this question. Would you advise me to: get tailoring to 193 and then try the 6th shawl? Or should I just leave my tailoring skill at 160 and be ready to make many attempts at the 6th shawl.

If it helps in answering the question, I'm a 58 mage with average gear (not in uber guild) and I do love tradeskilling.

If you are planning to raise up tailoring for the pride of having high tailoring then do that for a bit and then try. If you are only doing it for the shawl then just go for it now since it is easier to farm the 7 items for a 6th shawl attempt then to raise tailoring to where it is more likely to succeed then fail. A friend of mine got his 6th shawl 1st try with 153 skill and even forgot to equip his geerlok.

I did shawls 6 and 7 at 118 tailoring, success first try on both. I know I got ****ed lucky, but, it did just seem easier to deal with getting the items again than skilling up. Later, while doing shawl 8, I found that the padding was actually not a bad skillup route for tailoring. You need 8 padding minimum for shawl 8 anyway, so, go farm velium hound furs, make the padding, and end up with higher tailoring, and the padding you will need. I did that for skilling up from 158 to 163 or so. Tailoring goes up pretty fast still at that level.

I failed 6th shawl 6 times with a tailoring skill of 162. Finally got it on the 7th attempted armed with geelock and voice
probley a whole lot easier just refarming the items needed to do the combines for 6th then to raise tailoring skill caz the trival for 6th shawl is somewhere in the 190-210 range
just keep attempting and don't give up, sooner or later you will see the new shawl
        best of luck

Thanks for the feedback. I took everyone's advice and decided to leave tailoring at 160 and just try repeated combines on the sixth shawl. Just a few minutes ago I succeeded on my first attempt and am now the proud owner of an embroidered coldain prayer shawl. I'm still kind of in shock. Well, time to get level 59 and then start working on the seventh shawl!

The 7th shawl has got to be the most high stress combine out there - mainly due to the cost and quantity of items involved - I closed my eyes when I hit the combine button and didn't have the guts to open them for 5 seconds.
