Borannin - 8th shawl question

Hello all

I am finally about to finish my 8th shawl. I made the first 5 pieces of armor the first week the 8th quest was implemented. Then I took a year off from the game. Now that I'm back in the swing of things, I would like to finish (I think it's about time!) But i have a quick question:

I cannot remember if I ever talked to Loremaster Borannin and handed him my finished 7th shawl so long ago. I might have decided to wait on that part because, if you remember, when 8th was first put in, the quest was buggy, with the Dain and all that. What happens if I accidentally give Borannin the shawl twice, will he give it back? What would happen if I tried to skip that step?

My gut feeling is that i never handed Borannin my 7th. But I would still love assurance that handing it to him twice will not make him eat the shawl.

My understanding is that the shawl he gives you back is the same as the shawl you give him. Since this quest originated before LoY when npcs started remember what you've already done, it shouldn't matter if you give it to him twice. I'm not sure I've heard of anyone actually trying it, but in theory it shouldn't hurt.

If you're really worried and have sufficient time on your hands, you might want to consider petitioning and asking a GM if they could come watch. I'm not sure how willing they'd be to do this, but I do know that people have done it when dealing with notoriously buggy turn-ins, so that if the part gets eaten there's no issue over whether it happened. I have no authority to say they should do this for you and don't know if they're really supposed to, but I know it's been done. If you get a GM in the right mood on a slow day, they might be willing. Just a thought

Giving the shawl to Borannin only results in flavor text, anyway-I wouldn't even bother with it.
