  • Supplement to the excellent Raise Pottery guide by Kury

I have just used that guide in North Freeport. I have a few amendments that are of importance. Well at least I found them important. :!:

I did one mistake. I started to make medium bowls before I hit skill 36 on Medium clay jar. I had 35. Make sure you actually get 36 first! He states you should but did I listen? noooooooooo! I only wasted like 8 sketches, but never the less.

    I quote from kury.
    What I Bought
    50 Medium JAR sketches
    200 Medium BOWL sketches
1 water flask per sketch (summoned and foraged items don't work...grrr)
1 Medium block of clay per sketch
Don't worry about the firing sheets at this time. (Will explain shortly.)

    What I Did
Start on the pottery wheel with the med JARS, continue till it becomes a trivial thing for you (You can't make med BOWLS till then). Next move to the med BOWLS and continue till you become a Master Potter. At this point you can move to the more profitable and nifty items.

    Why No Firing Sheets?
Sheets are pricey, and you just never fail at the kiln. It’s best to destroy your successes since you’ll loose money if you fire up and sell the med JARS and BOWLS (at least I did).

My cost thus far has been:
50 med JAR sketches at 1s8c each
200 med BOWL sketches at 3s7c each
250 water flasks at 1s5c each
250 med block of clays at 6s each
For a grand total of: 27p5s.
With my Int at 218 I had to shop slightly more but not much. That is why I just missed 36 and started making medium at 35. I also had to buy more then 200 bowl sketches. 260-280 is what I needed to get to skill 122.

Next step I plan to do is raise skill above 135 for coldain Shawl 4. I need a Mixing bowl (128) for Shawl 3.

Rather than trying to make Mixing bowls (128) I will make Poison vial (148). The price difference is a factor 4,75! All I have to do is kill wolfs, cats, bears and zombies in East Commons. It is dirt cheap for killing green trash. All drops bar ruined pelts are usable.

After that I can use the same scheme to go from 148 to 168 using Lined poison vials.

I do not know if this is good enough to be in the guide section but I will give updates on this thread and hopefully it can help others as much as Kurys guide helped me.

If you are really concerned with penny pinching you are better off selling the pelts you farm in the bazaar and using the money to buy zombie skins which sell for a good bit less than you will make from the pelts/skins. Just an idea.

Kury's guide is excellent and I also recommend it to aspiring potters but you just need to remember that it was written long before the pottery skill-up rate adjustment a while back.

It will take a bit more work to get pottery up where you want it now.

A couple of good places to vendor mine zombie skins are the lighthouse in Gunthak and the merchants in Gukta, especially the merchant just outside of town in the swamp.

If you are going to farm LQ/MQ/HQ skins, you definately are better off selling them in the bazaar as Agouth suggested, and then buying zombie skins with the money you make. Either sell them as just skins, or make leather padding of them if you feel like farming spiderling silks too.

Alternatively, you could try farming zombie skins in Unrest for use in your pottery.

As an alternate idea to selling the skins you farm and buying zombie skins, go to South Karana and hunt them. There is a ruined spire south of the Centaur Camp that spawns up to 14 undead at once (in two rows). Only Zombies or Skeletons spawn there and I believe the timer is near 6 minutes. I've never seen that spot camped. On a good day, I can fill a backpack in about an hour and a half.

            Kury Guide Still Accurate?

            Howdy --

I've used Kury's guide without much success and wanted to see if the problem is something I'm doing wrong, or if times have changed since Kury posted the guide.

            My experience so far:
First, I needed 70 combines (not 50) to get to the first milestone. No big deal, I thought, since that could be an evil random number generator playing with my good nature.

The second stage, though, has been ugly. The guide states that it will take approximately 200 combines of the bowl to get to skill level 100 or so. I've already poured in 300 combines of the bowl and am sitting at skill level 60.

My character is a 7th level froglok cleric with a wisdom of 105 or so. I fear this is the real problem. Am I just not wise enough to make the guide work? ;-)

Any help y'all can provide will be appreciated.

            Cheers,
            Yawp

You definately need more wisdom to get a good skill up rate. try finding some cheap stuff in the bazaar if you are just starting out and questing your newbie armor.

                  Agree Xxyl.

Try to raise your wisdom before. You will raise skills faster and you need high wisdom anyway as cleric.

Don't forget that raising pottery is now more difficult than it was a few months. So, the numbers of combines you need will be more than it was when this guide was written.

Anyway, it's still a good guide to start pottery.

Get Wisdom like mad. I know it sounds hard at your level but aim at 250. This may seem impossible, but it needs to remain your goal. As well buying what armor you can find in the bazaar, get Misty thicket Picnic and Qeynos Afternnon tea (and learn how not to eat then) and though you cant get Kei, you can get a Wisdom buff from a chanter. There are a few threads on the main board on other items you can get that may not be in the bazaar (the quest book from High Keep etc).

If you really cant do this on your own, and you really want to tradeskill before you level, then I suggest you join a nice guild, and borrow stuff from your guild buddies!

                      Mid-lvl pottery on a budget

If you are REALLY economizing....farm the vendors in the karanas. Buy all the pelts and sell in bazaar or somethinig...but save the mist wolf pelts for your pottery vials. They don't stack, so most folks don't bother with them. Just go load up once a day and do some vials. Make a bit of progress each day cheaply.

                        Hello sister.

I will do as ye all suggest. I will run my main to the undeads and visit the merchants for zombie.

Farming for HQ pelts and silks for tailoring make me insane though.
