  • Is pottery money worth?

hi i've been working on pottery now. My pottery skill is (228).
I did Opal encrusted stein till (222). Then moved on to Star Ruby encrusted
Stein. I made about 13 star ruby stein successfully out of 80 combines.
I spent around 5-6k only for those combines.
In ECI, Opal encrusted stein sells like 5pp.
I checked Star Ruby encrusted stein price in bazaar. People sell it almost less than 100pp... -_- I am not sure if I can afford keep making those til become 250.
Here I have been spending fortune on pottery, my friend asked me that if I ever make money or make anything useful on pottery in future even I become (250), if its worth money spending for. I really don't know the answer.
Is there anything worth selling for for effort of becoming (250)?

That very much depends on your planar progression in PoP. If you have access to flagged zones such as Tactics or the Elemental planes, there is still a good deal of cash to be made on high-end pottery items, as well as decent but marginal sales of steins and golden idols. Of course, this is all only relevant on my own server; market conditions on your server could tell a whole 'nother story. Try doing some bazaar searches for "Ceramic", "Golden Idol", and "Faithstone" to see what sort of competition you'd be facing should you start producing lots of saleable goods. Best of luck to you. :P

      /agree with Divark

If someone is selling SRES for 100pp, they are rich and trying to skill up for the joy of it, not make money. Lowest cost to me as GM potter is about 150pp (I still lose 5% of gems, ruin 50% on wheel and 5% in kiln) On my server, Karana, I've seen this every now and again. What I do is wait it out. I refuse to sell SRES for less than 250pp. Sometimes a few weeks go by with them at lower prices. I do not follow. I send a tell to the person asking them to raise price also. I point out that price of all 9 gifts controls demand not price of this one thing. (This morning I sold a few for 300pp)

I make a steady living selling SRES for 250 to 300, Golden Idol of Tunare for 750 to 900, and Faithstones for 2k (low volume here). I also sell those trophy things for 8k (which amazes me as what GM tradeskiller hasn't got enough general skill and nerve to make their own )

Do look at GIoT while still trivial to you. It costs more to make but perhaps the 100pp SRES guy is making it up on GIoT. Gillette makes nothing selling handles, just on the blades.

If month after month on you server the prices are no way near this, you may struggle to make money. I suggest you watch prices of these things for a few weeks.

      Good luck

        Thank you for reply.
I have not yet have access to elemental, but hopefully soon.
I will try make Golden Idol ot Tunare when my skill is better.
(Iron Oxide is pretty valuable to get)
I decided to make Imbued Plains Pebble Idol and don't fire them.
It should save me some money.
Someone was dumping Star ruby stein 50pp in bazaar today!
        *sigh*

Wow 50pp. I'd buy them at that price lol.

There is no reason to wait on GIoT. Trivial is only, umm, 242. With Geerlok you are 228+11 or 239. You will succeed at a VERY high rate (85% ish?). The triv on SRES is about 280 or so so you will succeed perhaps 35%. Cost to you of GIoT is about 210 for mana vial, 100 for Iron Oxide=glaze, 25 in bits and pieces or about 450 each net. And you dont waste glaze on failures. Consider mixing some in now if you can sell for 450+. The non golden idols are smart too. And many peops mix in Crucibles.

Hmm if you Imbue pebbles, you might want to make Lucky Cabbage as a baking hobby to your pottery vice.

            Just wanted to add this.

I made 234 last night and I'm doing the Cereamic bands. I find this a bit more cost effective than buying Star Rubies for the steins. Red Ceramic Bands triv out at 242 (so with mod you 254) and the cost is not there. 57pp per Fier Opal, Emerald (10pp) for cloudy mana + general cost for poison vial (32pp/stack), water (2gp/stack), sm. block of clay (2pp/stack) etc I am spending what..less than 1300pp a stack. NOW there is a draw back. The UNFIRED bands only sell to vendors for 28pp each (roughly actually 27 and change). The FIRED FINISHED bands sell for 1sp 1cp. So it's not even worth finishing them. I supplement my cash need for improvement through selling Golden Idol of Tunare (plus when Earring of Solstice was in high demand I could sell 20 complete sets a week for 15k each and then used that money to raise my skill). I play on Stromhammer and I have no problem selling GIoT for 1250-1500 each easily (plus Blessed Fishing Rods are in high demand at 3k each and I sell like 10+ a week there too).
What I am finding out is I'm getting (with a 280 WIS) 2-6 skill ups/100 attempts. It seems to be flucky for me. On White Ceramic Bands it took me 400 attempts to trival out 222-231, while last night I got 3 skill ups in less than 40 attempts on the Red Ceramic Band. So you can say it cost you 6500pp for roughly 4 skill ups.
It has been posted and somewhat confirmed that you are more likely to get a skill up on a successful combine than a failure. SO the bands seemed the right choice being as the geerlok item let you be "trival" for success yet still get the skill up. I'm hoping to hit 239 tonight so I can stop this silliness on force skill uping and start making pop pottery items for my guild and for selling.

            Hope that helps.

              ever try imbued (non-golden) idols?

Being a shaman of CT, I am imbuing my own amber, have a low level chanter friend making enchanted clay and distilled mana for cost + some int caster junk I have accumulated. At 239, will take me to 248. Compared to bands, it is cheap and less hassle.

You are sooooooo lucky if u have gotten 2-6 skill ups per 100 combines.....i regularly need 40 er so PER point and am at 222 right now.
I realy find it hard to believe that its just "bad luck". I just did 73 combines for white ceramic bands and didnt get one skill up. IMO....theres something wrong here.

You are very lucky my friend.
