  • Planar steins + skillup

I finished off another point in Tanaan Crafting Mastery couple nights ago and am working on getting pottery up now. I had a bunch (70 odd) of tainted planar essences sitting around, so I made a ton of planar steins (didn't bother firing). I've got them all on a mule right now, but if I'm planning on getting to 216 with them, is it worth keeping all those steins for later use? Can I fire them and make things later on, or is the process for using them just a waste of time for skilling up?

I'm mainly interested in skilling up quickly more than I am about selling things until I've got a higher (230+) skill, but if these are useful I've got some mule space. By the time I trivial them though, I may have 1000 of them.

It's a good idea to finish a few just to stick them on your bazaar seller. You might sell some for a few hundred plat each. But I doubt you could ever sell all seventy. That's true of almost any recipe.

I put 8 on my mule a month ago. I sold 1, and gave 5 away to friends. I still have 2 and there are dozens for sale in the bazaar. I no longer fire them when making for skill ups. The ability to sell the unfired ones to merchants was removed a while back (for some reason, unfired ceramic bands and unfired planar steins were sellable to merchants), so now the cost of making these is plat down the drain (which is what I think the powers-that-be desire).

I just dropped the unfired steins on the ground as I was skilling up. I am also dropping the unfired imbued amber idols I am making to skill up to 250. Once I get to 250 I will make some desired items and throw them on my trader to recoup the 20kpp I spent getting there.

If you fire the stein using a lacquered peridot and crystalline valor glaze you make a Planar Peridot Encrusted Stein, which is used in the Secret of the Planes quest. These sell for 100-200pp on my server. Not sure of the price on yours but it is certainly more than the 20pp or so cost of the firing ingredients.

Of course, if space is an issue, don't bother. They don't sell very fast.

They aren't bad for powerleveling a level 20 character. The quest takes 15 minutes or less when you get the hang of it, and it is a sizable chunk of experience.
