Making ceramic lining problem..

I'm trying to make ceramic lining but I can't seem to combine them for some reason. My pottery skill is 122. I try to combine 1 small block of clay, 1 ceramic lining sketch, 1 water flask, and 1 quality firing sheet but when I hit combine in the pottery wheel it just says "You cannot combine this item in this container"..what should I do?

Ceramic linings like all pottery is a two step process.

Put the sketch, the clay and the water in the wheel to make the unfired lining.

Then put the unfired lining and the firing sheet in the kiln to make the ceramic lining.

How do you reach 122 in pottery and not know this yet?

Actually it would be quite easy. Most people who are just skilling up to a certain point (coldain shawls anyone) never fire anything upto about 148. The return doesn't really make it worth it for someone with a steady source of income.

Far too many "guides" make that same mistake of assuming the reader is really interested in pottery and not just getting past it for some quest. We've all seen those "Master Pottery on 30pp or Less" guides floating around.

Most folks make medium bowls to 122 skill, and just drop the unfired bowl on the ground to rot (the fired bowls sell to vendors for about the same price as the firing sheet, so it is a waste of your time and plat bothering to fire the stuff). This is the advice I gave guildies on how to skill up enough to make the thurgadin potions. And I am sure that the "skill up guides" for sale offer the same advice.

Yeah but recipe for the bowl still needs a HQ sheet to fire. He had the sheet in the wheel. Wouldn't you find out that if you were doing bowls that putting the sheet in the wheel doesn't work a long time ago?

That would depend on where he got the recipe. If someone just told him to do such and such to reach 122 that may have been his only experience with pottery. Then, if he looked up the recipe for ceramic lining he would naturally add the sheet into pottery wheel with everything else. And since pottery is the only trade skill that requires a two-step process for a finished product I expect this type of thing happens quite often.
