  • Pottery to 200

I am looking to take Pottery to 200, at least until I can get AA's for it to take it higher. I noticed casserole dishes, which are still relatively easy to get the supplies for, only go up to 199. What item is the easiest to get components for(besides buying them in bazaar) to get that last point? Would appreciate any input.

The problem with the opal steins is you need magic clay. Which I need to get through an enchanter or try buying it in the bazaar. I am trying to get as much as I can storebought or common drops if farmed. At least until 200, then I'm willing to go through hell and high water for 201 to 250.

As for the planar steins, where do you find the tainted planar essence?

Enchant clay is a level 8 spell. Tell me you can take 30 minutes of your time and get an enc to level 8?

Tainted essence is dropped in PoD/CoD but is very common on vendors in PoK and PoT for ~ 6pp each. If you wish to exp a lower level char, you can fire the steins with the peridots and do the stealth manual a few times.

If, and I am assuming you are by your reply, you plan to get pottery to 250, then you will have to make a stein at some point in your pottery career. Might as well start now.

I do have an enchanter that could cast enchant clay. But I would have to find someone to help me transfer the enchanted blocks back to my main. I was hoping I could get the 1 point without having to go through all that. But you are probably right, I might as well start the steins now. I do eventually plan to go to 250. I'm about 20 levels away though from beginning to collect xp for AA points.

          Thanks again.

I always suggest that people make crucibles of escape after 199. Of course, this is level and play style dependent. The heavy clay that you need has to be farmed. It drops off muddites in the Gorge of King Xorbb. The clay is not common, but it’s not very rare either. After an hour of slaughtering muddites I usually have about a stack of heavy clay. EQ Atlas lists the zone as levels 8 to 30. The muddites themselves are not very tough, but you also have minotaurs, a bit tougher, and evil eyes that also wonder the maze.

If you don’t mind spending a couple of hours farming greens, assuming they are green at your level, the crucibles are not hard to do. I just hit 200 pottery, on a second character, last night and it only took me about 15 crucibles to get my last point. Of course, the RNG may or may not be as kind to you.

Now that I have the skill, and over a stack of heavy clay left over, I plan to actually fire a few of the crucibles. But for skilling up, I simply dropped the unfired product on the ground just as I did the casserole dishes.

Unfired crucible of escape - heavy clay + bowl sketch + sculpting tools + scroll of lesser succor + celestial essence.
Firing - high quality sheet + misty glazing.
Final Product - WIZ/DRU, recommended level 20, effect: Lesser succor, can be activated from inventory, trivial 236

Yes, I know the heavy clay you are talking about, Calabar. I have looted some before when hunting muddites. But you collect a stack of those? I can maybe get 4 or 5 at the most, and I'm encumbered. I can't imagine trying to carry a stack of them.

I'm not really sure I want to farm that last point, but I will think about it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I used to have this problem myself, until I found out that if you find a nice out-of-the-way vendor somewhere, you can sell the enchanted clay to him and buy it back with the other character for very little cost (want to say ~15%) Also neat, because then you don't have to constantly transfer money to the enchanter; he/she is getting most of the money from the clay purchase right back again. Happy potting! :P

That's a great idea Divark. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I think we must be talking about two different types of clay. Heavy clay that drops from the muddites in the Gorge of King Xorbb is a misnomer. The clay is extremely light and stackable. It weights only 0.1 per stack. Here’s a link: http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=13214

It may take you some time to farm as much as you need, depending on how kind the RNG is to you, but the weight shouldn’t be a problem.

It's also quite a common drop from the banshees by the hedge in PoN.

Or just drop the enchanted clay on the ground somewhere quiet where your other toon is camped. Not suggested for uber items, but for bulk standard business junk this does the trick.

Another trick: leave the item(s) in an unlikely-to-be-used tradeskill container. Again, not recommended for uber items, but just fine for cheap ones.

I dropped all the items for a solstice earring (at once) to another character in Kael. I drop trade all the time. Wiseness certainly shows itself more richly to do it in a remote place (I recommend Erudin...no one is ever there). I have left items in the forge there, camped, logged on an hour later, found the items missing, went to the forge, there they were.
