  • Am I doing something wrong?

I skilled up to 216 with planar steins quite quickly. This was after tons of combines at 200 when I didn't know you had to put 3 points into tanaan mastery to go past 200. 10k gone... =( Anyway...

I have to ask because I've now performed 200 (or was it 220? I've lost count) combines without a SINGLE skill-up. I did 180 (maybe 200) Imbued Emerald idols and 20 green bands. I did all the combines in PoK. Does the type of pottery wheel determine if I can skill up on older items? It sure combines the items just fine and dandy but doesn't seem to grant the precious points. Do I have to put more points into Tanaan Mastery for anything higher than 216? I was under the impression that you could raise a trade skill to 250 with three AAs per level.

Regardless I'm on hold - stuck at 216 - until I find out if there is something I'm doing terribly wrong.

    Thanks-

pretty much any tradeskill after 200 is hard, i'm personally a potter (229 now ) and since they altered the skillup chances on pottery and fletching its been hard

the skillups do happen, it took me 400+ combines to go from 225 to 226, another 400 ish to go from 226 to 227, then 228 and 229 happened in one stack of tunare idol combines

for what it's worth i seem to get be getting more skillups doing tunare idols than star ruby steins, but the idols cost a lot more per attempt..

tanaan or regular wheel doesnt matter for skillup attempts, find a wheel you like and use that one,

i find that the wheel in the bazaar has been responsible for more skillups recently but the wheel in the stumpy town in shadowhaven grants me more successful combines.. some people probably find they have greater success if they're facing north, have all their bags open, have /auc channel off and there are no iksar's in the zone.. but honestly, it's all random

When I was skilling up I had runs going from 227 to 228 and 228 to 229 with several hundred combines each. I probably had some other bad skill points but on purpose wasn't keeping track of my numbers.

Sorry if this is obvious, but make sure your Wis or Int is maxed. KEI on, gear equipped, go get 'em!

My superstition is to never look as I go. I decide to make 60 SRES, I push the text window so far down I cant see it, then I make all 60. I don't check the result until done. If I get no skill ups it is only one "aw shucks" not 60. And if I get more than one I feel great!

(Of course this is no good if near the trivial and you dont want the item!)

I feel your pain. I started doing Star Ruby Steins at 222 today. 360 combines, 2 skillups, over 200 combines with no skillups all.
