  • Planar stein

ok, i'm at the point where i should be doing Cassarole dishes.

for those that are unfamiliar with thdem:
first you have to make ceramic linings. combine small block, ceramic lining sketch, and water flask on pottery wheel. Then combine unfied lining with quality firing sheet in kiln for ceramic linings (unstackable).

Then you need to actually make the casserole dish. Combinelarge block, casserole dish sketch, water flask, and ceramic lining (triv 199).

that's 3 combines to get a skill up, and with an unstackable item that you need alot of.

ok, i'm in the mid 50's now and hunt PON alot. I get alot of tainted Planar essences, plus they are abundant on the merchants in POK (about 6p each). I found these

Planar Steins combine block of tanaan clay, tainted planar essence, ceramic lining sketch, water flask, and sculpting tools on pottery wheel or Tanaan Pot wheel.unfired stein trivial 216

so, now all that explained, here's my questions, where can i find "Tanaan Clay"? what sort of price should i expect to fork out per block? is the clay stackable?

if ya look at my sig, you can seer i'm no stranger to TS's, so in my opnion, if the block of tanaan clay is less than a couple plat AND buying essence for 6p from vendors, this looks to be about a 8-10p combine. That gets ya to 216. I'd be willing to pay that.

my second question is, would this be a viable route to take right now (look at my sig for my current pottery skill) or should i tuff it out with cass dishes a little longer then switch?

Tallis Paerk (67, 1388) in the Plane Of Knowledge sells the Tanaan Clay. I think he is on the second floor of the building behind the library. I don't know how much the clay costs.

Another recipe to check is the unfired Crucible of Escape.

If you can find someone to enchant clay, Advanced Poison Vials can get you to 196.

the Tanaan Clay sells for about 10-11 plat each.

They stack, but buying a stack of 20 is 200-210 Plat. After awhile this begins to add up.

ok, with the essences selling for 6p and the clay for 11p, thats 17p per combine. I guess if you compair that to other 200+ triv skill combines, that's a cheap combine.

can ya post a little mopre about the vials?

The Advanced Poison Vial is a newish PoP recipe:

advanced poison vial = advanced vial sketch + large block of enchanted clay + purified water + old world pelt (see pelt list for which pelts work for making poison vials) in pottery wheel

unfired vial is trivial at 196 and the combine yields 2 unfired vials

unfired vial + high quality firing sheet in kiln = finished APV

The halfling in the building near the pottery wheels and kilns in the PoK sells the advanced vial sketch.

Details on the PoP pottery recipes page.

            minimum trivial

the question that still needs to be answered is weither or not the planar stein has a minimum trivial. I am stuck at 199 pottery right now and would love to use this recipe to get to 216 , but at 199 am I allowed to attempt the combine or do i have to be like 212 skill to try it.

If anyone knows a response would be greatly appreciated

              RE: Skill Restricted Combine?

I can tell you for a fact that the planar steins are NOT a skill-restricted combine, as I have been using them myself in an effort to get to 200 pottery (199 finally and spent two stacks of stein materials on that last point so far).

I did a number of Planar (Peridot) Steins at skil 180 with good success -- ran the Beginner Stealth Manual a few times at level 46 because I was bored and couldn't find a group, managed to make it halfway through the level *grin*

I'm actually around the same point you are, sir0die. I'm actually at 149 pottery and working on casserole dishes too. I unfortunately do not go to PoN because I am only level 33. But if tainted essences are that common in PoK, I will probably go that route. Now the tainted essences are common in PoK because people sell them to merchants, or because they are a item that is always stocked in PoK?

And I agree with you, the unstackable ceramic lining is a pain, especially with the subcombines for the casserole dishes.

The tainted essences drop in PoD and CoD, not PoN, I assume that was a typo, just want to correct the info. They are frequently on PoK merchants because players sell them to the vendors. They are not vendor sold on their own.

I would suggest making vials up to at least 188. Then do advanced vials or casserole dishes to 196/199. Then try the planar steins if you choose that route. While some (most) people find casserole dishes a pain to do, I personally didn't mind them. I did them in thurgadin when they first came out and everything but the sketches was in the same room with the wheel.

They definatly drop in PoN off the Banshees and I belive off the Netling Wraiths too.

Okay. There is -no- reason to do Planar Steins below skill 188. None. They are neither cost nor time efficient in that range. Do Lined/Sealed poison vials instead. Cheaper, and easier to get the pieces for (zombie skins are easy these days).

From 188 to 199 you can do steins if you want, but Casserole dishes are MUCH cheaper (~1.5 plat vs ~12 plat (or around ~18 plat if you have to buy the essence)) if you can stomach the triple combine thing.

Tainted Planar Essences drop off Banshees and Hobgoblins across the river in PoN (I don't think I've seen one on a Wraith/Imp, but I could be wrong) as well as in PoD. They're not particularly rare, but a night's hunt will still probably only net you a stack or so. Most people don't have any use for them however, and dump them to vendors, where they can be bought for around ~6 plat each.

Planar Steins are slightly cheaper than opal steins if you buy the essence, and significantly cheaper if you hunt it, and also don't require the services of a jeweller to lacquer gems. I still wouldn't really recommend them over casserole dishes through, unless you have deep pockets.

However, don't forget that planar steins do not sellback to merchants in their unfired form, so everything you spend on them is complete loss. Compare this with opal steins (or star ruby) and you can make a profit back by selling them in the Bazaar.

'Strue, but how much you can recover on those items varies widely. And frankly, I'd rather lose 11 plat right away than spent a gajillion hours in trader mode trying to reduce my loss to 8 plat. Maybe I'm weird tho.

Planar Peridot Encrusted Steins sell fairly decently in the Bazaar, as they are used for the Planar Manual quest. I sell one or two per night at 150pp each. Could sell them faster at 100pp, I suppose, but now that I am done with Star Ruby Steins I have a TON of bank space =)
