  • Spiritstone, recommended level of 51?

My Vah Shir shaman is currently 47 and depending on a friend’s druid to pick him up from his bind spot. It’s a long story, don’t ask. A spiritstone would come in very handy. When I looked it up its listed with a “recommended” level of 51. With most items that means you can use them but their stats are reduced until you hit the recommended level. Does this mean I could use the port ability of the stone at a level below 51? And I haven’t gotten a chance to price them in the bazaar. Does anyone have an approximate price for these stones? I have a feeling I’m going to have to go kill some giants for a while to afford one.

    Thanks.

Recomended on these means that that's the level you have to be to use the effect. You can equip them at a lower level, but it wouldn't do much good.

Spiritstones go for about 2k on Lanys, except when someone gets uppity and decides to try to sell them for 1k. =P

Thanks for the info. I’ll start shopping now and see how good a price I can get by the time Pait reaches 51st level. My poor shaman only has about 400pp on him. He can’t even afford to buy the rubies for his one shot at his brewing trophy. But I think my vendor has a couple of K on him, so I should be able to buy one if I find on at a sellout price.

Crucible of Escape: "Recommended level of 20."
which my level 19 wizard could use a month ago.

          Spiritstones: "Required level of 51."
... well then, required is a more definite statement.

not sure if spiritstones have been changed from "Recommended" to "Required" of if it was always required. if it was always required then good, if they changed it to say required then all the better.

I'm not sure I follow the logic here. What's the point of restricting the level of a convenience object? What if someone in their 40's strives and strains and gets their pottery high enough to make a Spiritstone/Faithstone, only to discover that for some arbitrary reason they can use it for another X levels? These are not POWERFUL items here. They don't break any game balance. They just make the life of the cleric/shaman easier. Why do we want a required level on THESE of all items?

You are right, it is a shame these are not useable at lower levels or perhaps all levels.

This sort of question leads to questions like why cant Druids and Wizards port at lower levels, and why cant Hybrids gate? And why can't Pally, Ranger and BL use these?

The fact is if everything in Everquest got easier, classes would depend on each other a bit less, and in fact it would be less fun. Lower level clerics and Shaman are dependent on Druids and Wizards to get to places other than bind point. Low level toons with no cash or powerful friends even need to (gasp) take boats or run! That part of the game is frustrating but is part of the fun too. Most people look back on their early times with fondness. I do. Perhaps this one thing could be lowered a tad, but overall I hope that don't make EQ so easy that it is no longer a tough challenge and thus fun.

Well, I checked the bazaar last night and found one spiritsone for sale, for 850pp. Unfortunately, it wasn’t one I could use. I searched again this morning before heading off to work and found one I could use for sale, for 2k. I still have three and a half levels to go before I can use a spiritsone, so I’ll see what kind of deal I can find by then. Naturally, I want to pay as little as possible, but if I have to pay 2k for one I’ll save up and do so. The ability to port to a second location, especially one close to a port book, is well worth the money.

As for the level restriction, it doesn’t really bother me. It can be frustrating at lower levels to see so many thing restricted to high-level characters. But the way I look at it is it gives me something to look forward to. As fun as it would be to have the best armor in the game and to wield my epic at level one, it would get old fairly quickly. If I don’t have something to look forward to in a game there’s no reason to play it. And to be honest, money is much more of a restriction, at lest for me. There are a lot of powerful items out there that I could have been using, even at level one, but I’ve never had the money for them. But as long as I’m having fun it really doesn’t mater. Perhaps some day I’ll get a chance at that nice gear. I’m certainly looking forward to it.
