  • Rod vs Burner ?

Can someone tel me the difference in the effects on the Ceramic Rod of Storm (focus effect: anger of e'ci) versus the Ceramic Incense Burner of Ro (ID IV)

Seems Rod sells for 39k - 100k in bazaar and have only seen Burner once for 350k

Burner is nice but come on 350k?? I wanted to slap the taste outta that guys mouth

Well I guess as a GM shm I can make lets see 40-50pp profit for 10 shot sow potions....

Seriously though if someone can help me with the difference in effects on these two items that wold be great. Im just trying to find an item so I dont have to get sapphire mage summoned bracers everyday for my wizzie.

Anyone who has access to BoT or without access have a shot at getting components to make rod.

Only guilds who have access to Fire have a chance getting components to make Burner.

It's the difficulty of how rare the components drop and also what do you have to go through of getting it.

burner also has way better stats than rod.

Yep, first the components for the burner are only obtainable by the top tier guilds atm. Second, they are pretty rare (well alteast the solidified magma is). The magma - when you can find it for sale, goes for 100k+ alone. The other parts are anywhere between 5-10k each. On top of that, it's trivial > 250 so you can still fail.

Even with all that, 350k is still ridiculous I agree. Nothing is worth that much money. I can't imagine prices will stay like that for long since who really has that kind of cash to fork over? Well, I guess unless you farm BoT for a living and are selling molds and runes like there's no tomorrow..;p

I may be mistaken, but shamans only have ice nukes? If so, the rod is a much better deal for you.

I am using the Ceramic Rod of Storms and have not seen a 23 percent increase in ice nuke damage. In fact, I haven't seen much of an increase in damage at all. Before using the Rod, I would see highs of approximately 1370 from Moonfire. After repeatedly using the Rod, the highest I've seen is 1414. I also have been using Mask of the Dragon Slayer before and after using the Rod. Just wondering if anyone else that may be using the Rod has seen very little increase in damage. If Moonfire is a 1260 nuke, I would have thought the damage from the Rod would be 23 percent of base, although I realize Moonfire's damage is variable and can be less at times. I've tried using it in primary, secondary and range slots as well. Just wondering.

Moonfire's base damage is actually 1150, not 1260, I have confirmed this by multiplying 1150 by 1.23 (23% bonus from rod) to give 1414.5, the max damage you ahve seen.

Maybe you have another dmg increase item that is increasing the base damage, like a mag ring or ID3? If this is the case it is clear they dont stack.

I divided 1370 by 1150, and I got 1.191, which is approx 20% increase on base. That is the damage increase given by ID3 (others give 20% too).

There are quite a few people that have that much cash, in fact on Brell there was a thread a while back asking how many Millionaires there were on Brell and it was over 20 people that posted. Hell I had 660kpp during Velious before I even joined my guild. It isn't that hard with a little knowledge of trading. I can't count the number of spells, gems, etc I've mined off merchant NPCs and then resold for a lot of plat, or trades that were in my favor because the person wanted my item much more than theirs.

The real benefit of the ceramic rod for druids is with the level 65 cold based nuke. ID3 won't work on that.

I've also heard the rod has a nice particle effect...anyone know what it looks like?

it looks awesome, i got a few friends who wanna buy one just for the looks, if i ever get more stormwatcher's stones. it's got a swirling cloud thing at the tip, and a lightning bolt coming out teh back...all in all looks like something zeus would hold. And i've seen a cleric using one in primary...obviously just for the particle effect.

I keep mine in range slot and have it so the graphic shows. :-) I get asked lots what it is I have and where can they get one. Amazingly enough, even advertising em I can hardly sell em.

ok, first of all, shamans have poison based nukes as well as cold. second, as moonfire is 60, the mask of the dragon slayer would focus it, giving its 20% bonus. according to lucy therefore, your max nukes are exactly what they should be, as thordon calculated. the only benefit of either the rod or the burner over that mask is for using 61+ spells.

personally i (as a wiz) intend to get a rod sometime after i finish AAing at 60 and outgrow my white dragonscale cloak. hopefully i'll be able to scrounge up a stormwatcher stone or 3 by then.

Well let me tell ya after 61-65 as a wiz your not going to find much use for this rod, since you wioll RARELY use any cold based nukes.

You will be using magic and fire so the stupid burner is the best thing going, or a war wand wiz or just plain and simple a mage summoned sapphire bracer

I plan on getting one of the Ceramic Rods as soon as I get my level 65 Ice Nuke and replacing my White Dragonscale cloak. When Fire nukes are needed, I can ask for a mage bracer. Druids can also look into getting the Ornate Planar Gloves that have a focus on it specificly for our 64 Fire nuke. Don't know if other classes have comparable items. But these 2 items will cover both our nukes, and can be swapped out for your items of better stats when you don't need the extra nuke damage.

The effect on the gloves is mana preservation on fire nukes not improved damage to fire nukes.
