Getting from 199 to 222 was a snap – Now what?

I have been stuck a month on 200 in my smiting career. I am saying career because I may collect social security before reaching GM. Pottery is so much easier!

Focusing on opal encrusted steins was the right way to go. Almost everyone that enters the bazaar is a potential buyer. I would make enough of these to fill several trader bags and auction “Need better vendor prices? Opal Encrusted Stein 25 cha only 25pp each” I would sell an average of 20 per day. Granted when I started this no one else was flooding the market. It really helps doing the auctions. I can’t tell you how many times right after auctioning, I’d get a tell saying “I’ll take two. Where are you?” This morning I noticed that someone else has taken over the market and lowered the price to 10pp (the next lowest price was 30pp – surly he is not an economics major). I found the price did not matter so much. You could be 10 or 40pp as long as you are matching the low you will sell plenty with the auction. Send the auction and go watch TV or read a book and come back in a half-hour. Do it again, etc.

Well now what? There doesn’t seem to be any good volume sellers. There are a few items that you can make an excellent profit and blow the profit on something like white ceramic bands. Any suggestions from a GM? How did you do it? It would be most appreciated.

if you want volume sellers, go pharm acrylia or leather padding stuff.

as for pottery skillups, after 199 the recommended progression sort of branches a bit. as i understand it, old school imbued idols are a good idea after 222. erolissi marr ones are cheapest if you can find/make a cleric to imbue star rose quartz for them. plains pebbles are the next cheapest but a bit harder to get in quantity. amber are easiest but more expensive. all trivial 240 or higher. only thing is they dont sell at all. if you want something that will sell, you could try star ruby steins, but the market is just as flooded now as it ever was on those.

Aye. At 222, you have two real options. Well, three.

      You can:

      A) Hurl money at the problem at make an arseload of Star Ruby Steins. You may someday make some/all of it back if you can somehow store that arseload of steins for later sale, but this is a huge upfront investment.
      B) Hurl less money at the problem by making "old" imbued idols. Erolissi Marr (Rose Quartz) is the cheapest, but rare to find a cleric of (*hugs Aelorni*). Cazic is pretty cheap (Amber) and all Iksar Shamans are Cazic imbuers. Failing both of those, you can do Bristlebane (Peridot) if you can find a halfling cleric, or Tunare (Emerald) as a last resort, because every high elf cleric and wood elf druid in the game can help you with those.
      C) You can take your time about it and make saleable goods. This includes faithstones, spiritstones, star ruby steins, and golden idols of tunare (also other golden idols if you think there's a market. Some of them are pretty decent - the Golden Idol of Brell is a pretty solid ranged slot widget for Dwarven Paladins.) and replace them as you sell them. The utility of this method though, depends on your being able to secure a good supply of distilled mana, and iron oxide/permafrost crystals, because you need all three of those for Golden Idols/Faith/Spiritstones. Oh, and for Stones, it helps to know a brewer too.

I did star ruby steins for a while and actually broke even and maybe made a bit extra (this was 2 weeks ago) but this week there seems to be a lot of stien sellers so I powerleveled a cleric to do star rose quartz imbues. Was fun actually, I got a few friends to make twinks too and we did ae groups in Dalnir, unrest and the hole

I also have a chanter mule so I can enchant clay and make the clear mana myself.

With this method I went from 223 to 242 for about 6-8k or there abouts. But it's pretty time consuming doing all the enchanting, imbuing and making clear mana.

          Update

          Update

I went ahead and threw the plat at the situation. I got to say this is uncharacteristic of me. I have mostly in the past taken the pay as you go approach. It felt good! I made 240 white ceramic bands and jumped from 222 to 231 at a cost of about 7,200 plat. That is about 26 combines or 800 plat per skill point.

I figure this will come back to me with the higher success ratio on the golden idols and faithstones. I have already made quite a few golden idol of Tunare and the Faithstone of Nature (quite a handy item). I tried making a few of the other ones at 222 but my success zip. I used up a stack of distilled mana’s (/cry). On the faithstones I had a few success at the wheel but only to fail at the kiln. It seems that on all the other pottery items the kiln combines are trivial. Is this my really bad luck or is this truly a high level combine?

What to do next? Unmei has some good suggestions. I think a combination of the 3 has merit.
