Ceramic Shield of Valor won't combine

Trying to get advice for what I am doing wrong. I am at the spot where the tanaan pottery wheel is supposed to be in PoK. (it doesn't say tannin pottery wheel, it just says pottery wheel) I put in valorous glaze, yellow gem of valor, sculpting tools, 1 block of tanaan clay and try to combine. It tells me that I can't combine these items in this container. Do I need to add water, find another pottery wheel that says tanaan pottery? Would appreciate any help I can get. One other thing. I am using a geerlok sculpting tool for the 5 percent gain. Is that wrong to put in there? My skill atm is 221.

Glaze is used in the Kiln after you do the wheel part. Put all the otehr stuff in the wheel combine, then if you succed put the unfired item in the kiln and the glaze, firing sheet and then combine again.

I do not understand how you could get high enough in pottery to this combine and not know that.

Actually, Merlman, before you start getting all uppity, you're wrong. =P All the planar pottery items use the glaze on the first combine. We're not sure why, but they do. Yes, it's dumb, yes, it's different from how Divine Crystalline (and all other glazes) are used, but that's how it works.

That said, I can't tell you why the combine isn't working. Are you sure you're not using Crystalline Valor glaze instead of Valorous Glaze?

you equip the geerlock in your main hand its not going into the pottery wheel

That is the issue. Put the Geerlock Sculpting Tool in your Primary Hand for the 5% Benefit. Use the Standard Sculpting Tool in the Recipe. Don't worry, you will get it back, success or fail.

As they said, the problem is you need to use the other sculpting tools. And I would highly recommend not attempting this expensive combine with only 221 skill. I have 246+5% and I failed 4 of my 7 tries.

Thank you for all the advice and the problem, as several had pointed out, was the geerlok. I put it in primary and got a sculpting tool for the combine. I know that I had low skill but I was really bored of skill ups and I wanted the shield. Sometimes you get lucky and I happened to be today. I now own a new ceramic shield of valor.

Made my first two shield attempts last night. 1 for 2 at 236, and I didn't even fail on the firing.
