• (222) Now What?

I made 222 and opal steins are now trivial. I'm glad because I'm sick of those things, but now I have nowhere to turn for easy skillups. Star ruby steins are just not an option at 1500 per stack of SRs.

Looking at things it looks like the best option is White ceramic bands until 232.

My questions are.

1) Is the mud off the Muddites that "rare"?
2) Iron oxide is still rare or either I can't find them...where are they?
3) I'm not sure what the price is on Fire opals. Is it just better to PL my 16 chanter to 20 and do Ceramic bands until 242?
4) is Bubonic blood a rare drop?

Please give me any suggestions you have. I'm in an extremely raid happy guild and don't have a lot of time to farm.

1) Is the mud off the Muddites that "rare"?
That depends. If you're of sufficient level where you can either kill them in just a few swings of the sword or train the whole zone and AE them all...then no, the mud isn't that "rare." Lower level characters, who can't easily kill the muddies, will probably disagree.

2) Iron oxide is still rare or either I can't find them...where are they?
Since they added more mobs that can drop oxides, they're not that rare anymore. In November of last year, iron oxides were selling for about 800pp from just a couple of merchants in the Bazaar...now, there are at least a score of sellers, who have many oxides to sell, for as low as 50pp each. If you're looking for drops, kill stonegrabbers in Marus Seru...they drop a lot more than the old world elementals.

3) I'm not sure what the price is on Fire opals. Is it just better to PL my 16 chanter to 20 and do Ceramic bands until 242?
I think fire opals cost about 52pp from a merchant, with good cha/faction. Since I hit 250 in pottery back before they adjusted it, I don't know what the best option is anymore, post 222. At the time, I skilled up on star ruby steins, but of course this was during the PoTC craze and easily recovered my money back on the goods I made.

4) is Bubonic blood a rare drop?
No idea, but if it's a PoP drop, then assume it's rare as hell. I've pretty much gotten out of the pottery business myself...the farmers make more selling components than any potter does actually selling the end result.

Thanks Velisaris! I couldn't have asked for a better response. Off to kill stonegrabbers in Marus Seru. Should be easy for me to kill Muddites then. 65 druid with 60AAs.

The gorge has bad memories for me. I was wandering around in there around level 20ish, got charmed and wiped out a bunch of mid-high teens that were grouped at the zoneline. Between healing the mobs they were fighting and nuking their healer to a fiery crisp they really didn't stand much of a chance.

8) Aint that the truth! My husband is always telling me: "You can't make any money in this tradeskill or with that tradeskill item." Good thing I just enjoy the time I spend making things and, silly me, I still get all giddy over skill-ups to move on to something new.

Imbued Idols

1 large block of magic clay
--- level 8 enchanter spell
1 idol sketch
1 vial of clear mana
--- level 29 enchanter spell
1 sculpting tools
1 imbued gem
--- plains pebble, trivial 242
--- star rose quartz, trivial expected to be > 250

Throw away successes and make back your plat with the odd opal or star ruby encrusted stein sale. Total cost per attempt? ~15pp. Total farming time per attempt? As long as it takes you to track down the enchanter and imbuer.

Sounds good in theory anyways, will put it to the test once I trivial out opal steins myself.

edit:

Imbued idols are from the "old" recipes, Mystnife.

You're thinking about the golden idols that were introduced with the PoTC quest. The old imbued idols, to be honest, are pieces of junk...they're a little cheaper to make, but they only have like one or two positive stats (like +2 wis or something like that). But I suppose they may be cheaper than some other things to make; just remember that they still require imbued gems, so while star rose quartzs are cheap, spending the time to find someone to imbue them may not be worth those few plat saved.

Blah

I'm exactly where you are. I've done a bunch of imbued idols, and some faith/spiritstones and a few star ruby steins. No particular luck on skillups so far either. Though it's worth noting that one of the types of Ceramic Bands (white) uses the same Lacquered Opals you've been using for your steins, so if you have any left over, you just need some clear mana and stuff. They trivial at 231.

I've actually had pretty good luck making things at 222 + Trophy though. (Heck, I made the trophy at 222 + Geerlok, which is the same thing I'm 1/2 on Spiritstones, 3/4 on Faithstones, and 1/1 on Ceramic Rods of Storms. =P Of course, I'm like 1/7 on Star Ruby steins, so....

Edit: Additional info

#1: Muddite Mud - I ran around the gorge letting my trusty animation slaughter anything that I could find for about half an hour. Got three heavy clay. Make of that what you will.

#2: Iron Oxide: Any luclin mob with the "stonegrabber" model seems to have a chance to drop this stuff now, and it's basically all over the place. Ask your friends and guildmates. Odds are they'll get some if they hunt luclin at all.

#3: Fire Opals are ~50 plat each. Not cheap, but cheaper than Star Rubies (~70)

#4: Bubonian Blood seems annoyingly rare. I've found the components for most of the other first tier planar stuffs, but this one eludes me.

I did star rose quartz imbue idol from 228 to 243. My avg skill up is 36 combines/skill. I throw away all success combines (success a lot), but compare with making stein or golden idols, this was a fast way for me to go when I really needed to get high enough to make some of the elemental plane items for my guild. If ever have to do pottery again, I'll still go with star rose quartz imbued idol. It's easy combines and all parts are buyable.

I skilled up before the changes, but i do have info on Bub Blood.

4) is Bubonic blood a rare drop? - This drops off the Rats in PoDecay. You have to get flaged to get into this zone, and it is a 60+ zone. We take one group of well equiped 65's into the rat caves and we will usually see about one blood drop per hour of good fighting. Sometimes we will see nothing for 3 hrs though....

This is one of my favorite zones right now, and it is a bonus that 2 of the needed 3 items for the Skull of Decay drop there.

I've got to 227 on the Heavy Clay/CoE. I spend an hour at a time going around the loop in Beholder watching my hasted chanter pet killing all Muddites. I get around 12 per hour (ish). It is fairly pleasant diversion - I stop and kill the evil-eyes on each lap (since they are ugly). These are a pleasure to make also (with no messing about with coating gems and enchanting clay )

I'm meanwhile making Spirit/Faith stones and Golden Idol of Tunare for my guild. I'm about 8 for 17 attempts on the Faithstones - the hardest is Tunare I'm convinced, as I've failed those way more than Marr, Brell or Erud. I even got one skill-up just on these 17 tries! (34 sapphires though ouch-ey)

I'll return to Heavy clay though for now. Cause when I'm 235 and broke, I wont be able to make them. The deep poverty will be the home stretch to 250 - I dont wanna burn out now.

It also drops off the rats in Plane of Disease (not sure if you had these confused or not). PoDisease is not a flag zone, you can go in at level 46. I have not hunted the Bubonians there much, but I know that they drop it. Bubonian Blood is also used in brewing and is part of the Planar manuals quest (the Combat manual).

Planar Blood Brew requires Slarghilug Blood (no drop), Nightmare Mephit Blood (50pp on Quellious), and Bubonian Blood (usually 600+pp). I never knew it was used for pottery. That explains the price.

No... Bubonian Blood is expensive because it's so **** annoying to get. Well, okay, it used to be expensive because it was used in a cool pottery item, but not it's used in a SUCKY ARSE pottery item, so there's no actual reason to use it for such. =(

bubonian blood not really rare

Guys bubonian blood is not rare at all, it drops all the time in a certain zone....Crypt of Decay. best bet is to get some from a guild that hunts there..but it drops a lot, so i wouldn't pay too much for it, unless the supply is really restricted
I have a few stacks in the bank, wish they were in high demand on my server.

Never seen a single drop of it for sale on Lanys. I'm also getting the impression that Crypt of Decay isn't hunted a whole lot. Therefore, it's rare to me. Besides, I didn't say it was -rare-. I said it was annoying to get.

Fair enough advice. I know a few guilds are struggling with ol' Bert at the moment.

I doubt they're in "high demand" on any server, frankly, now that the ceramic skull of decay so utterly sucks.
