  • Ceramic Bands?

Well i was lookin for some gear to make for my soon to be frogie shamy, and i stumbled across the ceramic bands. The one that a shm can use has unlimited dd of 5, but not usable till 20, and recast of 3sec. This is all fine, and i might try to make it, but really gets me is the skill lvl it checks agains 200+ ???? am i missing something special about these rings, cause personally i think they should be trivial around 110-130 or so. Also for the min. lvl i would at lease except a lvl 8 dd and not a lvl 1 dd.
Please feel free to add comments about it. Im curious what u Master Poters think bout this stuff. Also do post any other stats they have, because it looks like all they have is the dd and no stats.

The blue band, at least, is highly prized by enchanters for charm soloing (lets you get full experience without spending mana on a nuke). I don't know if they're worth as much to the other classes that have bands, though I'm pretty sure I've seen necros buying the black one.

I have seen Wizards, Druids, Mages and Clerics use their band to quickly break a root on command...used rarely, but nice if you have such a band on hand then. And yes, for Charm solo, for breaking Mezz and Root NOW, i use my blue ceramic band 8)

The ability for a nuke to break root is related to the amount of damage it does, I think. I haven't had much luck using the band to break roots; it's usually faster for me to memorize a bigger nuke, cast the bigger nuke, and meditate to get the mana back.

This is incorrect. A 3 pt nuke has as much chance of breaking root as a 3000pt nuke (pretty good, generally). Save your mana. That's one of the few things these bands are good for.

I have 3 uses for my ceramic band (one of the best items ever, right next to my insta-click eye of zomm):

            - As a mage, you have to do at least 1 pt of damage to a mob to get full experience when your pet is killing it. Ceramic band gets me the exp.
            - Free nuke to pull with
            - Faction tagging. It seems that this spell is hardly ever resisted and I've used it to tag everything from Protectors of Zek to Nuriandi.

ps- The 4th use for the band is to nuke your friends and scare the heck out of them (especially in a zone where the fatality rate is high).

Just picked up one this weekend (45pp!) and I already love it. Celebrated by decimating the Gorge of King Xorbb for half an hour -)

I don't know the answer, but I can relay my experience. My entire career I have used my lowest level root. (1-52) Used to be able to root and burn it to the ground. Now when using Draught of Fire it breaks nearly every other time if not more. I HAVE seen a scaling of the ratio to nuke damage/root breakage.

Could it be coincidence? I suppose...just my observation.

Same for me, just using Conflaguration being level 46, but almost universally it breaks root.

I know I used to nuke/nuke/nuke without breaking roots quite often in my younger days....

I do like the idea of the band to tag things .

                    Meh.

I personally think that it's at least as likely that you are seeing those differences due to a change in the root break code, or due to a change in the ability of higher level monsters to break root.

Suggestion: Try rooting a high level badguy and then nuking him a few times with the sucky low level nuke of your choice, and see how it works out. ('cause frankly, it sure seems to me like those sucky low damage procs that people have on their melee weapons break root an awful lot.

I use my ceramic band (made it myself!) to

                      1) faction tag

                      2) break root

                      3) finish off a mob I am soloing if I am oom, while I am on my horse

(sitting on horse I get same mana regen as if I was sitting + my band's 6pt dd nuke is mana free...have to spam it a few zillion times even when mob is one pixel away from dying, but allows me to med for enough mana to slap it down if I get impatient)

My alts who are pet classes also use theirs for the aforementioned mandatory 1 point of damage required to ensure the pet doesn't steal half the xp

Oh, I'm gonna have to get started on some of these just as soon as I can!

Btw, I'm of the mindset also that any DD has a chance to break root no matter how small. In CoM at the Temple I have cast a variety of L44-49 nukes to break my baby "Root" to no avail and yet, my partner's warder and partner's proc's sure can break that root *every* single time.. 'specially when I wish it would stick a bit longer.

I really gotta get a horse soon to get past that sit-agro while learning the in's-and-out's of my *new* STUN.

Shame on you wizards ( ops: SHAME! ops: ) for not using your Staff of Temperate Flux to tag things. Instant click debuffer, can be cast on the run, range is the same as most of our nukes (**** you Ice Spear!), and is sufficient to get faction.

The Staff of Temperate Flux is the most useful thing in a Wizard's arsenal save for their epic. 8)
