  • A couple of questions

    Hey guys,

In just the last few days I PLed my pottery skill from 197 to 205. As a result I'm where it gets expensive as you all know. However, I'm also on a time constraint.

So a few questions I'd like to ask and if you have time to give me a few hints it would be much appreciated.

    1) Is there ANYTHING I can make to attempt to redeem a portion of my expenses?

    2) Have you noticed that the closer you get to the "trivial" mark the faster your skillups come?

    3) I've did a rough calculation on the items I'm attempting to see what the costs were. I exclude the 'cheap" items like clay as they really have no impact on the final result

    1) Opal Steins - Opal 18.5PP
    2) Green Bands - Emerald 13.5PP Cloudy Mana 20PP - total = 33.5pp
    3) Black Bands - Peridot 10.6PP Clear Mana 25PP - Total = 36.5pp

I have a level 13 chanter that's been making the magic clay, but if I get him to 20 then I can cut the cloudy mana cost by 10PP making it a more financially feasible option. My question is Is there a cheaper way?

I recoup a fair amount of my costs making Opal Steins, and the occasional Tunare idol. My steins sell slowly, and the Tunare idols don't go for much anymore... but it's something anyways. I don't have a lot of money earmarked for tradeskills right now, so whatever trickles in will be my money for the next batch. My skill is 206 and I have a very, very good success rate on both pieces (never failed a Tunare idol, actually).

Make unfired planar stein to 216. It'll only cost 12pp per combine total if you farm your own tainted planar essence.

The absoloute cheapest is Unfired crucible of escape, as long as you have the time and desire to farm Heavy Clay in Beholder.

The cheapest farm free route is Opal Encrusted Stein. I did this to 222 and over time have sold or given away all but 130 or so. (everyone in my guild has at least 4). I think I turned a small profit since i sold many for 40 to 50. I'm still working on selling these last few at 25- I hate to trash 3k because of impatience.

I sold them much much faster with the occasional auction line (i.e. run to computer during commercials). The line which worked best was, " If you buy or sell with less than 105 charisma, you are giving pp away. Get an Opal Encrusted Stein or 2 today! Happy customers report it pays for itself"

or for variety" Are you an ugly smelly Troll? No charisma? You can buy and use 2 Opal Encusted Steins"

These lines are copy right on Karana - I still want to move my last 130!

          Actually...

It's cheaper to do Planar Steins even if you DON'T farm your own essence (and the stuff is on vendors a LOT) because even the vendor price of the Tainted Planar Essence (Around 6 plat) plus the price of the Tanaan Clay (10 or so) is still less than the cost of the opal (17) for the opal encrusted steins, nevermind the components for making the celestial essence (which are generally worth about 1.5 plat each) and so forth.

OTOH, you won't be making any money back because to fire the planar steins requires actual effort and additional cost, and there's not really much of a market for them. So if you have the patience and/or inventory space to try to sell your steins, Opals are a better route, but I did the planar method and let me tell you I'm glad I did. I was going nuts trying to get rid of all my opals just on the run from 216 to 222.
