Am I doing it wrong?

I'm currently at 235 and making Unifired Idols (Rose Quartz). It feels like I'm spending 1kpp for each skill up. Am I doing it wrong? Is there a cheaper alternative that I'm missing? I thought pottery was fairly inexpensive. I guess not. lol

Unless you're paying a lot of money to someone to do the imbueing/enchanting, those idols should cost around 17pp per attempt. At 235, you should be getting a skill up approx every 15 attempts. Hence, you cost would be expected to be 250-275 per skill up.
As a sanity check, make sure you're not doing the combine that requires a gold bar. If you are, then you're making the wrong one and it'll be expensive and slow. The one you should be making is http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=4937

I'm getting about 3 skillups every 100 combines or so. I have an alt to imbue/enchant. Seems like it's skilling very slowly to me. Oh well. I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing.

Murky TBS power sources trival at 263 however they a tad more expensive to make than steins.
However you will need sunshard pebbles.And cloudy mana pots.

What is your wis/int? Also, make sure you're not doing these combines in the guild hall. Instanced zones have been known to be buggy when it come to getting skill ups.

Wis/Int both at 325. I did 400 combines tonight and got the Star Quartz Idol trivial. Time to find a tunare worshiper. =)
