  • Tradeskill Charms?

Maybe I'm missing something here, so I'm asking in the hopes someone can point out what I'm missing...

    I have a 260+ Brewer that would love a Brewer's Charm.
In order to make this charm I have to use Brewer's Clay, which is nodrop
Then I have to make a 250 and a 210 combine with the Clay to get my charm

So why bother putting in Charms other than Potter's and Artisan's?

It is not hard to get to 200 pottery and that is enough to get a decent success rate on those other combines.

Also, someone that does not have smithing, fletching, tailoring, may not want to put in the time to get them but has brewing or baking and does not want to spend the aa to raise a 2nd skill over 200. Or a low level toon that does not even get aa cannot get the artisan charm maxed.

actually 200 skill = max chance to make the pottery combines. There is a min fail on the 250 and 200 is already 95% for a 210.

Because plenty of people have some skills, but like to show off or highlight a specific skill. Making the clay portion does require a decent pottery skill, but it is the combine for the specific charm that matters.

Conversationally, this is not the first time I have seen this questioning. I find it amazing how quick people are to lash out against the fact that the charm takes a little more work instead of just being something handed out. I guess how you interpret the quest is related to your feelings about tradeskills in general.

While I have made some plat along the way on some tradeskill items, I really do them for fun, provide services to friends/guildies and to be able to complete quests like this. As they say, you can't make everyone happy all the time.

I'm not lashing out, I'm just questioning the logic.

Similar to the fact that these charms "gain power as your X skill increases" yet the Clay item needed is a 262? Trivial, so once you actually make the item there's going to be only a small amount of increase.

You do not have to be at a skill level to make an item with that trivial.

Also, as Ngreth stated, there is a minimum failure rate. So there is no difference in success rate between 200 skill and 300 skill in pottery to make the charms.

The difference between 262 skill and 300 skill for a single tradeskill charm is 4ac, 19hp/mana/end, 3 to all stats, and 2 resists according to the calculator.

I agree that is not a huge amount overall. But when you consider it as a % of the total stats, it is almost 20% of the total stats of the item. (Rough math estimate in my head, may not be accurate.)
