Was wondering if anyone else was having trouble with last combine for the Artisian charm . I have now failed for the 5th time at this part. I was fully buffed at 500+ to stats have a base skill of 264 and mastery2 along with salvage 3 . I fail everytime when I try to fire the unfired charm . I have been tradeskilling for years and am aware of the fact you can fail trivial items , But to fail this combine 5 times at same point seems odd . Maybe I am just missing something ,would appreciate any suggestions . Well off to farm some more stuff for clay . Thanks

Final combine is high trival you can fail a lot. Same thing with old tradeskill trophies as well.

So it is not trivial at 250 as listed in recipes? Guess I am just extremely unlucky with this combine . Well I will get it soon or later , skilled up on idols to 269 after failed charm and made 97 out of 100 combines which trivial for 282 .

I seem to remember the Artisan Charm having a 75% fail chance built in? does the quest/recipy say you are likely to only succeed 1 time in 4.

reverse that 75% success cap (not 75% fail)

But luck can be rather bad sometimes!

I would say 0-5 is bad luck . I will wait a bit and get mastery 3 and try again or will this not help because of the built in 75% ?

If the trival is 250 and the base skill is over that, normal recipes will have 95% chance of sucess with your base skill to 290 and 96% after that. Since there's a hard cap of 75% sucess rate, i doubt master is going to make any difference. Salvage should help but it doesn't always play nice and salvages the cheapest or most common item.

5 fails in a row is defiantly bad luck. 1, maybe 2 fails would be expected with your skill over 250 but not 5.

Thats why I posted , Thought maybe final combine was bugged or something . So far with salvage 3 I managed to save 1 firing sheet . Well when the servers come back up I will be trying again . Thanks again for all the input .

Not to anger anyone but both my Paladin and Druid succeeded on their first try with just over 200 in pottery, and no mastery AAs.

The trick is to have enough for 2-3 combines on you when you try - then you'll suceed first time!!!

JonzeGirl, that is exactly what I did. I made 3 unfired charms and had enough components to make at least 2 more. Afterwards I thought to myself, I probably should have held off on making the extra unfired charms to see if I failed first but I was thinking this way I can just try again immeditely, oh well.

Both making the clay and firing the charm are special combines with artificial success caps.

Ngreth was nice and gave us the actual number for the success cap: 75%. People who have high enough skill to reach the success cap (like you) have a 25% chance to fail making the clay and a 25% chance to fail the firing. So they have a 43.75% chance to fail their first attempt. Personally, I failed my first two attempts.

                          The odds of failing 7 times in a row = (0.4375)^7 = 0.0030679...

That means for every 1000 people who attempt to make an artisan charm, you expect 3 of them to fail 7 times in a row. I'm really sorry to hear you are one of the three, but it's not totally unexpected.

/comfort and /prays to Quellious that the random number generator will be kinder to you in the future.

                            Artisan Charm

I am so excited - I fired my artisan charm last night, (YAY!!) after having 3 failures on the artisan ceramic clay part. This thread (with the actual success-failure data, plus everyone's input) really helped. I feel lucky - I only have a modified pottery skill of 216 w/ trophy, and am estatic that I didn't fail on the final charm firing. Definitely - farming/collecting more than 4-5 combines' worth of the clay and mounted gems is the ticket for being successful 1st time on that final firing!!

Now I can get back to maxxing my JC/smithing/tailoring again (my true TS loves!) Also wanted to say I have been a "lurker" on these forums for years but never did post. This is the greatest source of info anywhere outside the game, period. Keep up the GREAT job.
