  • Artisan's Seals Soon To Be Obsolete?

A few days after the Prophecy of Ro expansion went live, my main character managed to sell his artisan's seal for a cool 5500 platinum pieces. Not bad, considering it had been rotting in his trading satchel for quite some time. Soon afterwards, I went about gathering up some rare gemstones to create another seal. Partways during that process, though, a thought occurred to me: Am I making something that will have little or no market value soon?

Here's my line of reasoning. As far as I can tell, artisan's seals are only required for the very high level trophy tasks. As such, one can expect an initial rush of people buying those seals in the bazaar (or making them) in order to create their grandmaster items required by those tasks. However, given the fact that this initial rush of people will eventually peter out, and that the lower level trophy tasks don't require these seals at all, what point will there be in making artisan's seals anymore? Sure, they can still be used to create the old style weight reduction satchels, but with the ability to evolve one's tradeskill trophy from the lower levels and end up creating a weight reduction container equal to that of the old grandmaster trophies, who would want to do such a thing? Another thing to consider here is that the statistics on the new trophies (at their most evolved level) are superior to the old trophies.

If I've missed something here, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll hold off on making any more artisan's seals.

Expert and Master tradeskill quests require old style trophies so the demand is likely higher now than before but only until a majority of peeps have gotten caught up on the new tradeskill quests out of Freeport. Then it'd probably go back to gathering dust

If you farmed all 4 gems, the seal should be under 2k, with most of the costs going to 8 bars that are only sold in Thurgaden.

Slightly OT here, but those gemstones aren't that rare any longer.

True enough. I sometimes slip into yesteryear's mindset when those gemstones really were hard to find. Nowadays, you can find them with relative ease, such as the time I found 150+ black sapphires on the merchant in the Norrath's Keepers camp in the Lavastorm Mountains.

Of course, they're relatively easy to find if I'm just casually passing through. When I actually go hunting for them, then they seem to hide themselves away from me.

I would have to differ with you Nolrog. on Cazic Thule people are going out of their minds over the Blue Diamonds. I suppose it is the new trophy quest that is eating up most of them (and the Artisan's seals). Currently people are gobbling up the BDs at a minimum of 600/gem in the bazaar and they rarely last more than 5 minutes if priced below that.

Blue diamond velium bracelets are the fastest way to evolve the master's jewelcraft trophy. Sure, you can do it more cheaply with geodes but who has the hours and hours to spare foraging in LDoN zones?

Blue Diamonds are used in a lot of things not mentioned here as well (AAAA for example).

and as far as I gather you still need the seal to get the poison coffin *dusts of memory* at least I think so
