  • 202-250 skill help please

    Hi first time poster here.

Im a lv 56 pally on veeshan, been stuck at 202 skill since like FOREVER, after i finished with those ench rings i have been having no luck with skill ups, i have made around 200 golden idol of tunare(220 if you count fails) tried about 5 stacks of opal encrusted steins, 2 stacks of star ruby encrusted steins, 3 stacks of errolissi idols and still not a single skill up!! Is there anything that can be done, i do combines with around 230-250WIS (depending on if i can borrow some friends gear cause my own wis gear only gets me up to 232 w/ KEI) Any help or reccomendations on what i should make or what my problem is will be greatly appreciated. Or if your on the veeshan server just shoot me a tell im almost always on Seijin, Frawsty, or Wonhunglo. Thanks in advance for your help!

    !

You've succeeded at 200 out of 220 Golden idols with skill 202? Dear agnosticus! I'll trade you my 217 skill for your success rate! o.o

You are doing all the right things

Try and get some cheap gear upgrades that will allow you to get 255 WIS with KEI, and get a KEI for your skill runs. Many of us have tradeskill gear that are not our fighting clothes. If you are having a bad run, stop, zone, and do something else for awhile before trying again (OK it may be superstituous but it seems to help.) Again it may not be proven but doing the next trivial up from your skill level seems to help chances of a skill up. OK this may the most superstituous thing I can suggest - do some skill up work in another tradeskill when it looks like things are going really well switch to pottery and cross your fingers. Always seems to me that skill ups in anything occur in bunches - even for people I am grouped with (my weapon skill increases at the same time as a friend - spooky.) If it is going bad take a break. (along with the advice that tailors give - don't count your combines it will just be discouraging. I just work until I have used up one of my components, and try to avoid planning to have enough of all components to do X combines. But then I am taking my time with just about everything - tradeskills, levels, quests....)

With the golden idols of tunare - I had similar success in the range you are in. Always thought it was weird when a few friends of mine never seemed to have that sort of success on average for large numbers of combines.

I made 11 of 12 on the idols last week for PotC with 194 skill. It's those darn stiens that are the real hangup. It's cheaper to go buy them from a GM in the bazaar who is skilling up on them. The 1 stien cost over 700pp to make because of the fails, so we gave up on that.

Or if you don't want to flood the market with idols and steins, go farm the Gorge for heavy clay and make unfired crucibles of escape (they used, at least, to sell to the vendor unfired). You may get sick of muddites but the gnolls will start to love you. And it will be a lot easier on your pocketbook.

I've been wondering about those crucibles. It says the I need a scroll of lesser succor as an ingredient. Is that a common spell in druid guilds? Anyone have a rough idea of the cost for the scroll and how much the unfired crucibles sell back to the vendor for? I'm currently stuck at 210 with 60 opal steins in the bank and am thinking about switching to the crucibles if I won't lose too much money.

Crucibles are very cheap to make compared to the alternatives. The spell costs under 6pp. I can't recall if all druid guilds have it, but I know you can get it in Rivervale and in Shadowhaven. However, I didn't have the patience for extensive farming of the heavy clay. I made about 130 crucibles in my skill run, and that was only a minor dent.

222 to 227 in one go!!!

I must have made 1300 Opal Encrusted Steins getting from 199 to 222. Having reviewed the notes here, I decided to try some Crucibles of Escape. And hey wow! I farm 30 Heavy clay, spend 156pp in spell scolls, and skill up form 222 to 227 in one session! Can you believe? Is it possible that skill-ups are faster with these than with OES? Or is skill up just fast from 222 to 227? Or am I just the luckiest little Erudite this side of Lower Guk?

                    hmm.

My money is on lucky, or that crucibles are better for skillups, 'cause I've done on the order of 60 nontrivial combines at 222 and have yet to make it to 223. =/

I think the current status of pottery is such that it’s just a pain to try to skill up. This last weekend I tried to get my last five points to 199 and the number of combines I had to do was unreal. It took about 200 combines each for my last two points and that was with 255 wisdom. So I don’t think your situation is unique, unfortunately. I’m going to make crucibles of escape for my last point. It’ll be interesting to see how many combines it’ll take me.

                          tainted planar essence

Make planar stein but don't fire it. It can take you to 216.

block of tanaan clay, tainted planar essence, ceramic lining sketch, water flask, sculpting tools

Components are easy to come by, the most expensive part is the block of tanaan clay which is 10pp and some change. That gives you each combine under 20pp even if you have to vendor shopping for the tainted planar essence. If you really want to, you can turn around and sell the fired planar stein for the quest.
