  • 300 Pottery for a Big Pile of Plat

There's something I discovered last night as I was plotting my way to 300 in pottery. Now, I'm all for doing things the old-fashioned way, and cheap is king in my book, but I found a recipe that will take you all the way to the top, that's as close to store-bought as pottery gets. All of the components for it can be bought, although there are some intervening steps.

Firstly, you'll need a lot of money. Each combine costs about 220 plat to do, so it's not cheap. Second, you'll need an enchanter, but I assume you're already in good with an enchanter if you do pottery. Lastly, you'll need a brewer. I suggest you do this part yourself, because it's appallingly cheap to do what you need, and you can be an apprentice brewer when you're done.

The recipe is the unfired version of the Faithstone of Decay. You'll need an enchanter to make the magic clay and the distilled mana vial, and you'll need to brew fetid essence. But, all of the components for those enchanted things, and the components for the essence, are vendor stock. The rest is direct vendor stock. As long as you don't fire them, you've got a no-farm route to 300, since the recipe trivials at 335.

    For shopping purposes, you'll need:

    2 sapphires (105 pp each)
    1 poison vial (1p5g7s5cp)
    1 celestial solvent (1g2s5cp)
    1 scent of Marr (1p5g7s4cp)
    1 fishing grub (3 cp)
2 water flasks (1 sp each)
1 large block of clay (1g4cp)
    1 idol sketch (1 sp)

...and your sculpting tools, which you get back. Everything is buyable off vendors, and if you're looking for one zone for all of it, the Plane of Knowledge has everything in one zone. Of course, the 214p3g1s1cp price per combine assumes you don't pay for any enchanting or subcombines, or do them yourself.

I don't normally like to see people buying their way to the top, but I figure if this helps someone desperate for those last few points it's worth the risk.

Is there a reason why you'd do this instead of Unfired Star Ruby Encrusted Steins?

For the steins, everything is storebought with the exception of having to enchant the clay (level 8 enchanter). The total cost, per my calculations, is 77.753 plat per, including failures on subcombines. Trivial = 335.

The recipe, for the record, with component costs in plat:
    • Ceramic Lining Sketch - .052
    • Lacquered Star Ruby
      • Jar of Lacquer - .150
      • Star Ruby - 68.250
    • Large Block of Magic Clay
      • Large Block of Clay - .104
    • Sculpting Tools - Not consumed, nominal cost
    • Celestial Essence
      • Celestial Solvent - .125
      • The Scent of Marr - 1.574
    • Water Flask - .010

I would have to agree with Twistagain here. Star Ruby Encrusted Stein is alot cheaper and not more difficult to make. But i would also slip in the Unfired Idol (emeralds) in between.

Heh, well...I suppose I should have prefaced the above with my personal route:

        Unfired Planar Stein to 216
Unfired Idol (Star Rose Quartz) to 255
        Unfired Idol (Emerald) to 282
Unfired Star Ruby Encrusted Stein to 300

Granted, I've PLed two clerics and an enchanter to 29 for the imbuing on the idols. Didn't take all that long, really...but I realize that people might not want to do so.

Funny how those PLed tradeskill mules take on a life of their own, isn't it?

I PLed both a cleric and an enchanter, just for making components. Now, that cleric is lvl 57, and the chanter is lvl 53. And I hear them yelling at me every day "I need more play time!" :lol

Well, there are very few rumblings that this recipe will be nerfed in a patch. Plus, brewing is cheaper to raise than jewelcrafting. Other than that, not really, but I like to point out what I find. One never knows how this may become useful.

              Spherical Bottle

Give Spherical Bottles (302) a try. Shop the Air-Infused Spring Water priced for less than 70 pp in bazaar and you can make a cheaper combine than Start Ruby Encrusted Steins:
              - Air-Infused Spring Water (max 70 pp)
              - Spherical Bottle Sketchs (0.4 pp in Pok or AS)
              - Block Of Clay
              - sculpting tools

              Mitsune Foxfire, Vazaelle

Triv is still 335 after the 11august2005 patch on Star Ruby Encrusted Stein. If they implemented that increased skill-up chance on rarer items then the bottles using air-infused water may be a better choice (dependant on baz prices) triv is 302 i think (obviously ignoring the A-Iwater/kirin horn bottle).

I wish I could use spherical path bvut air infused spring water usually go for a few hundred plats a pop in bazaar. Tried a buyer mode and never got one at 100p offer.

Either they are extremely rare on Maelin or sellers are just being greedy

its probably a bit of both. The air-infused water is hard to come by in quantity simply for the fact that the forage tables with it in it also have some 30+ other items. In a typical 6 hour play session I can expect about 6-12 Air-Infused spring water and a ton of stuff that gets thrown on a full vendor so as not to clog the vendor inventory

I am playing on Vazaelle (which some like to call Maelin nowadays) and getting Air Infused Spring Water for 30-70 pp has been possible. Of course this means check the baz 2-3 times a day, 7 days a week for a couple of month. But I got cheap sales (30 pp), big sales (3 stacks at once), regular vendors (selling some every day) and weeks finding none at all. And when the vendors raise their prices too high, try to sell some yourself at a lower, seriouse price. They often follow down, just for the competition. (And of course, all of this is valid for all kinds of items, not only for the spring water).

This would work...except for those sharks that promptly snap up all you have and put it all for sale at their inflated price.

A guildie of mine, was frustrated that the price of CEs had jumped to 15pp each. So he went to baz with a couple of hundred and set up trader with them at 5pp each (normal price on Povar). 4 hours later the price had dropped to 5pp and he never sold 1. Maybe the horsey he was sitting on scared all the sharks away.

Not a good comparison as CE's anybody at any level can make, while Air-Infused H20 is a rare forage/mob drop. I've also tried a buyer at 100pp each and was sold 1 in a two week time-frame. Star Ruby steins here I come...
