I finally finished off my 240-250 push last night after saving up my pp for some time. 240-250 cost me 23k doing star ruby steins.
I didn't start tracking my data until skill level of 223, but hopefully what I did gather can help someone. If you want the full Excel spreadsheet, email or PM me and I'll get it to you or post it on my site.

774 combines from 223-250
27.64 combines per skillup
1 combine minimum for my skillup (happened twice in this range)
139 combines max for skillup (actually skill 223, so was really higher, just 139 from time I started tracking it)
223-227 I did the unfired idols using rose quartz
228-240 I did the unfired idols using amber
240-250 I did the star ruby steins (couldn't find more people willing to imbue)
All combines were done at a 305 intell. Skillups 240-250 also included a +5% geerlock.
5 of the 27 skillups were on failed combines
I wish I had kept more detailed tracking like I did on jewelcrafting, but live and learn.
