  • Kiln Problems?

Since PoP has gone online I have been experiencing some problems with my pottery tradeskill.
The failure rate at the Kiln has gone through the roof. I am at skill level 178 and more often than not have a Geerlok Sculpting Tool in hand. At the pottery wheel I have a normal and acceptable quantity of failures - I expect it if I have not yet met the trivial score. At the Kiln I experience failure rates of at least 30% when working with quantities of 50 to 100 pieces (higher rate at lower numbers). When working in quantities over 100 pieces the rate drops to about 25%.
Before PoP my failure rate at the Kiln was a slim 2-3%.
Has anyone been experiencing similar problems?
What can I do to get my old rate back? I have tried /feedback and /bug with no results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You

What items have you been firing? I haven't made nearly enough combines to have valid data, but anecdotally I have a much higher than usual kiln fail rate on star ruby steins, between 30 and 50%. Firing anything that takes a glaze (golden idols, crucibles of escape) still has just the 5% fail rate though. I wonder if we're being punished for making "easy" recipes that don't require glaze farming. =)

Since the PoP expansion has gone online, I have used the Kiln for ...
Blessed Dust of Karana (for Lucky Cabbage)
Air Sealed Aradors (for Surefall Ranger's Trail Juice)
Ceramic Linings (for NoStick Fry Pans and Casserole Dishes)
      Casserole Dishes
      and Sealed Poison Vials.
Normally I wouldn't have complained about it, but these items take a significant amount of prep time and effort to get to the point of firing. To have a high failure rate on the final step can be quite disheartening.

I don't kno much on the fire rate pre-pop as I never really used the kiln befor PoP. But while i was doing a skill up run in pottery, I was doing the casseroll dish, which requires the ceramic lineing, at the wheel i was getting a fail rate of about 6% in the kiln i was getting about 28% and this a sample of 160 fully fired lineings, or was it 200? I though it was odd i was takeing so meny fails in the kiln.

It has been the oposite for me.

I did a run of about 100 planar steins to get my pottery from 197 to 200. I ended up with about 90 unfired steins that needed firing, and didn't fail on a single attempt in the kiln.

I guess you could call it luck, but what do I do with all these stupid steins now? I have been unable to sell even one Opal stein for 150pp in the bazaar. They have good stats, but nobody seems to want them.

            Not me

I did something on the realm of 400 ceramic linings today (cassarole dishes 168-199 only 7 more points to go on these!) and wasnt having bad results firing them. Was about 5-10% fail id guess on the day.

It's definately not cool at all.
After running all over Norrath making an artisan's seal for a GM trophy, and having to have 250+ JC skill to make it, then watching it fail in the KILN?

              Well that really bites.

Happened to me 4 times now at a cost of around 5K per seal.

              Something is very wrong.

Okay ... Now that we've confirmed that there may be a problem -

What do we do now to get it fixed?

I've tried using /feedback and /bug in game and I've written an email in real life. I have not received a response nor has the problem been corrected.

                Any suggestions?

I emailed the GM on our server 3 days ago.
                  Guess what?

Using the Developer's Corner, /bug, or emailing Absor are pretty much the best routes to getting something looked into. You can also email eqmail@soe.sony.com and it'll forward the mail to where it needs to go.

Keep in mind though that you'll always have at least a 5% failure rate on stuff no matter what your skill is. Sometimes we have good runs and fail nothing and sometimes we have bad runs and fail half the trivial items.

Honestly, I'd like to see some more responses on the subjects before I'd consider there to be a problem. I'm not doubting those that posted here, but we all have bad runs. Consistant bad runs would be indicative that there is a problem though.

I'd also suggest logging and parsing kiln combines. This provides Sony with some information and backs your claims that there could be a problem.

                      Meh...

I haven't noticed anything weird going on with the Kiln. I haven't been mass producing or anything, but I did 18 (two failed on the wheel) Opal Steins, and one star ruby stein two nights ago with no fails in the kiln at all...

I think you're missing the situation.
Question: If an item is Trivial in pottery, is that same item then not trivial on the kiln?

I am having issues with the kiln in PoK because items that are Trivial in pottery at my level are failing. Can this happen ? Or, In fact is it bugged?

No, the responders so far have not been missing the situation. You have two chances to fail any pottery combine, one on the wheel and one on the kiln, no matter what the trivial for an item or for the firing (even though firing trivials vastly lower). This has been the bane of potters from the start. There is said to be a five percent chance of failing ANY trivial combine, so you have that same chance on the wheel and in the kiln.

Yes, it has always seemed unfair. No, those at VI have never heeded anyone's complaints about the double jeopardy we face as potters.

You are having an extraordinary string of bad luck here on the random number generator it sounds like. I use the kilns in PoK periodically on my server, Lanys T'Vyl, with no problem (just the occasional fail in firing). I'm not sure what server you are on, and there is always the chance that the kiln you are using on your server is bugged. So my first suggestion would be to try a run of some less costly item in another kiln and compare the stats, then if you think that particular first kiln in PoK is bugged, email VI again. You might have another potter check their results in both for comparison, as well.

Good luck on future combines - hopefully it really has been just crumby bad luck so far.

So cumulatively..... 10 percent chance to fail on FINAL product. I've always hated this too.

I assumed they never fixed this because anyone could buy the unfired products and take them to the kiln and fire them with whatever sheet is needed and get skillups - just for firing.

They need to REMOVE the 5% failure on Kiln combines and just REMOVE the ability to get skillups from it too. That *should* resolve the issue. But will they.....? :?

                              Feh

I doubt that the skill up thing is the reasoning, because, A) most unfired products can't be sold to merchants anyway, and, well, if you're buying from another player, you probably could've just tried to make the thing yourself and try to get a skill up there, and B) because I've yet to meet a firing that was trivial at higher than like 19.
