  • should I Master please reply

I just saw the guide master pottery for 30pp and im wondering should I even bother mastering this craft. Its not so much the money but the amount of time id waste getting to 100's and is it even worth it. If i did id prolly push to 200 if i could but from what ive been told its a waste of money. Pottery is underpriced by vendors so we cant even sell our wares to other players because they can get them cheeper from vendors then we can make then and because of that it also means if we sell back to vendors we lose money.

    So what do ya'all think

Unless you have an urge to do a tradeskill for the fun of it, or to help folks with stuffs, or whatever, then you're probably going to be happier NOT doing pottery or any other.

When the potc quests were really busy, pottery (and the other involved tradeskills) could earn a pretty plat. Right now, it would probably be hard to see a return on investment very quickly, so I wouldn't go into any tradeskill expecting to make lots of plat.

    Good luck in your decision.

Pottery can be porfitable somewhat, but not until 200+ in skill. Unless you enjoy doing it though, don't bother, it's not worth it. Just note, if you plan on doing the shawl quest, you're gonna have to have at least 122 in pottery for the 4th one.

You're only talking 30pp and about an hour to master it...thats how I initially got involved with it...then I was sucked in by the neat toys we could make. Half the fun is running around getting components (most of the time).

Some of the tradeskills begins relatively cheap and if you only need a skill of below 200 or so then by all means stop, but if you'd really love to have a tradeskill then go for it. As with everything else in EQ, tradeskills involves quite a bit of time, patience, and plat

I'd worked my pottery up for the shawl quest to around 135 or so (fairly cheaply I might add) when a guildmate got excited about the PoTC quest and both encouraged me and funded me to get my skill high enough to do golden idols of Tunare for a bunch of us in my guild. He started me out with 5k pp... and it took at least 5k pp more for me to hit 200, if I recall correctly. But after that, my pottery started paying for itself and quite quickly generated more than enough income for me and my hunting (and farming) partner to upgrade equipment on all of our various characters, and to begin extending such tradeskill up-front money to other friends and guildies, and I couldn't now even tell you how much plat I've given away.

Even though demand for PoTC items has fallen off, there is still a very steady and reliable income in pottered items. Getting to 242, where I am now, was quite often a pain and filled with frustration (I've stopped aggressively trying at this level to hit 250, although the mod on my trophy does of course put me over that) but the rewards, and the fun I've had with crafting items for people and funding their tradeskills to take some of the bite out of their skilling up, has been more than worth it.

Word of warning - they did make it harder to advance in pottery now - it's no longer the "200 skill in 15 minutes and 10plat" skill it used to be.

Before PoP I cant say pottery have a lot of good recipes. Faithstones, poison vials and luclin golden idols maybe. All other items are quite useless. except as secondary skill to make containers etc. With PoP new focus items, I will say it worth getting 250 pottery, cause you may get a lot of money and also make some nice items for your guild, especially if guild cant get them from PoP bosses.

Even with PoP, getting to make those "new focus items" isn't all that great. The components are UBER rare and many come from inside zones where most can't get to without a great guild or lots of teamwork.

A lot of ppls prefer to sell components instead of making items.
Lets say I made valorium ring a week ago. One ppl offered me metallic liquid + razorfiend talon + 15k for that ring. It was a bit risky, but when sucessed, I got 15k for free.
You may understand, if you dont have 250 skill, you will either need to pay to someone for combine or sell components. When you ask your friend to do combine for yourself, he will do w/o probs. but when you asked him to combine 10 rings for you, and after that you sold them for 300k, next time he may decline futher combines for you.
There are 2 tier3 planes, which have quite easy access (HoH and BoT). and any high lvl guild may help you to get your BoT flag and you may solo HoH flag. All other focus items might be made with tier1 components.
Of course, JC is best tradeskill for you, if you want to make money, cause those new PoP items worth a lot. But with pottery you may get your money too. Ceramic Rod of Storms easy doable and worth good.
