What is this?

It's the first item in a Vendor list but its price is 2099pp.

I'd assumed it was the basic recipie book for pottery, but at that price?

Its for poison making... rogues can combine their 4 poison sketchs which are required for different recipes into a master sketch which works in all recipes.

What would potters need it for??

Potters don't get this because the Poison thing is a quest. The 4 sketches we can collect are parts of a whole and the sketch book is a combine container that repairs it. There are only *4* sketches here. Not the several dozen that a potter has.

Yurien, the Poison Sketches are used in a few of the PoP poison recipes. Also, they are not consumed in the combine like pottery sketches are, they are considered a tool, like you sculpting tools are a smithy hammer.

Some of the rogue epic pieces that can be (and almost always are) skipped over (rendering it as easy as it is) were re-integrated into the game as part of these quests.
